McConnell, Cornyn Walk Plank on Debt Limit to Ire of Conservatives
Roll Call ^ | 2/12/14 | Meredith Shiner

Posted on 02/12/2014 12:57:00 PM PST by jimbo123

Senate Republican leaders Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and John Cornyn of Texas on Wednesday voted to advance legislation that would increase the nation’s borrowing capacity — but not before they spent 40 minutes of the open vote trying to get others to do it for them, likely out of fear of the conservative blowback that came almost immediately.

Earlier this week, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, demanded the 60-vote procedural move, which put McConnell and Cornyn in the uncomfortable position of having to find five Republicans to join Democrats in supporting the debt ceiling measure. By doing so, Cruz gave perfect fodder to tea party groups and candidates, like the Senate Conservatives Fund and McConnell opponent Matt Bevin, against in-cycle Republicans who would need to vote for the bill as opposed to just letting Democrats do it themselves with a simple majority.

Within minutes, the two leaders were getting hit on social media by their opponents.

Well....one thing about the Senate Minority Whip, John Cornyn. He is very consistent.

Like Steve Stockman said: “Cornyn treats the back of TED CRUZ like his personal cutlery holder”.

Can’t wait to show John Wayne McCornyn the door. He is toast.

"A dozen Republicans voted with Democrats in all, most in a clump after McConnell and Cornyn led the way: John Barrasso of Wyoming, Susan Collins of Maine, Bob Corker of Tennessee, Jeff Flake of Arizona, Orrin G. Hatch of Utah, Mike Johanns of Nebraska, Mark S. Kirk of Illinois, John McCain of Arizona, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and John Thune of South Dakota."

Well here's list of leading RINOs not running for re-election, 'cept for a couple.

The 5 year long, lopsided power struggle continues on the now shredded Congressional Field of Battle in the District of Corruption, along the muddy banks of De Nile River.

The simple goal of the much-praised Left Team, also called “Democrats,” as stated by their team captain B. Hussein Soetoro-Obama is to “Fundamentally change the United States of America.”

The multiple, and very complex goals of the Right Team, as yet unstated but consistently acted out by Special Wrongway RINO Defense Squad Co- Captains John Boehner, Eric Cantor, Kevin McCarthy and Pete Roskam is to DO NOTHING that will irritate the Left Team.

The Right Team is also known by the name “Republicans,” a nostalgic name from a long-past time when there was “Liberty and Justice for all.”

The Left Team has a single Offense Squad with All Democrat Stars from many Schools of Higher Government Learning, to name just a few:
* Department of Gestapo Justice, (DOGJ);
* National Spy On U., (NSOU);
* Interrogate Ream Sue U., (IRSU)
* Reid Barrycade Senate Universal, (RBSU).

The Left Team always runs down the Congressional Field of Battle together, and has been admiringly nicknamed “ District of Corruption, United.”

The Right Team has never allowed the many Constitutional Offense Squads onto the Congressional Field of Battle, due to well-timed and strongly worded objections from many RINO luminaries such as Loser Emeritus, “Wacko Birds” McCain.

After a recent weekend, group-hug, bonding session, many caucus meetings, and private deal-making, Lead Co-Captain John Boehner picked up the ball yesterday and ran down the Congressional Field of Battle to score a goal for the Left Team.

Thanks to the RINO Defensive actions of “Wrongway” Boehner and his ‘gang of 27,’ an additional 1 to 4, (nobody is really sure), TRILLION dollars will be added to the National Poverty Debt Game Clock.

Co-Captain “Wrongway” Boehner was assisted by 27 Members of the Special Wrongway RINO Defense Squad.

Needless to say, “Wrongway” Boehner and his ‘gang of 27’ made no contact with any of the Left Team Members.

Time will tell if donations to the Special Wrongway RINO Defense Squad, (SWRDS), will increase or decrease before the Championship Game in November, 2014.

Have you seen any polls showing how any of the races in Texas are trending?
I know the early voting starts in 6 days and the primary is 20 days out. I’m
surprised that there aren’t any polls being made public. Some of the campaigns
may be doing polling but not releasing to the public.

Think of it this way:

Cruz forced McConnell and Cornyn to publicly back Reid and 0bamacare against the Republican Grass Roots.

Just like Boner in the House.

The “Leadership” is now in full revolt against their caucuses, constituents, and parties.

CRUZ WINS THE SET!

I agree, but note the first term Senator made the end run around the Senate minority leadership and almost upset the applecart. I like these guys who stir things up. All Cruz wanted was cloture where EVERY senator would have to vote on the debt ceiling increase.

Why Madge and Cronyn didn't this is beyond me, as there's mid-Terms coming up

The hurdle was reduced from 2/3s to 60% by Walter Mondale.

"In 1975 the Democratic-controlled Senate[5] revised its cloture rule so that three-fifths of the senators sworn (usually 60 senators) could limit debate, except on votes to change Senate rules, which require two-thirds to invoke cloture.[19][20]

The Senate experimented with a rule to remove the need to speak on the floor to filibuster ("talking filibuster"), thus allowing for "virtual filibusters".[21]

Another type of filibuster used in the Senate, the post-cloture filibuster (using points of order to consume time, since they are not counted as part of the limited time provided for debate), was eliminated as an effective delay technique by a rule change in 1979.[22][23][24]"

No point is losing even money to fight a battle one can never win. The young elected Obama. Let him be their problem. The albatross around their necks.

McConnell must have confidence that he will be hired by a big money employer after the 2014 election. He knows he is at risk so he wouldn’t make a controversial vote. Either that, or he thinks the Dems and media are going to give him some favorable publicity (which won’t save him, but he doesn’t know that).

As others have said, the R party promises responsible governing but when in office, they behave meekly and never ask for anything to support Americans, only offering token resistance to the never-ending string of extreme leftist demands of the Dem party. In the end, they always “compromise” with we Americans giving up something and the leftists never giving up a thing.

The R party says, we have to win back the Senate, then we will have some leverage. But, if they win the Senate, they will say they have to win back the Presidency to have the needed power to fix things. But, if they win the Presidency, they still have the media propaganda system beating them day in and day out. They will always seek favorable media treatment, like McCain, but the media will never treat them fairly. The media only wants to use them. It is the media they fear the most and it is only the hard left media they fear. They are terrified of any media criticism. But they will never get fair treatment from the media, so winning all the elections will never achieve their real goal of being liked by the media. It will never happen.

The R party leadership must go and be replaced by a leadership that doesn’t fear the leftist media and has another strategy for getting its message to Americans. That is the key and professional political consultants, who are obsessed with getting good media exposure on leftist propaganda outlets, must be avoided. It is a fool’s errand.
