Skip to comments. The Minority Maker, Ted Cruz hurts his party by forcing a meaningless debt-ceiling vote
Posted on 02/12/2014 4:40:17 PM PST by Oldeconomybuyer
The Senate passed the House debt-limit increase on Wednesday, but not before some needless drama that helps to explain why Republicans remain a minority.
Democrats had enough votes to pass the increase with a simple majority, which means they would have owned the debt increase. But then Senator Ted Cruz the same fellow who planned the GOP's shutdown fiasco in Octoberobjected on the floor and insisted on a 60-vote majority. This is exactly what Democratic leader Harry Reid wanted because if the bill failed he would have sent the Senate home on recess and returned later this month to join President Obama in flogging the GOP as the debt-ceiling deadline neared.

The GOPe needs to be hurt.
Step aside geezers, there's a nation needs saving.
The media is at it again.
Its no wonder the respect and trust in media ranks right up there with congress.
If it weren't for the GOP in congress the media would get no respect at all. Apparently.
Actually he flushed the RINO’s out...again.
He held McCnnell and Coryn’s balls in a vice grip.
Good for Cruz.
The Senate Democrats would have owned the Debt Ceiling Increase, really?
Oh yeah, after the Republican House passed it all the Liberal Media Pundits would have reported it that way. LOL
This from the WSJ a defacto Obama superpac. Give me a break!
Not according to us hicks in fly over country.
The Wall St. Journal has been liberal for awhile now. Their editorials have tended to remain somewhat conservative. However how much credibility to you give someone that hides behind their anonymity? No guts no glory - chicken heart.
The Wall Street neocons and the Country Club crowd are starting to sweat.
The WSJ sucks Obama’s a$$ once more.
This is exactly the articles that turns the WSJ into toilet paper and most Americans wipe their asses on it!
GOPe blaming that awful Ted Cruz, there they go again.
Good for Ted Cruz in forcing the weasel RINOS to identify themselves. It helps us to place the crosshairs on those that need to be eliminated for being the traitors that they are.
Then we'd see the Republicans cutting Clinton off in the late 90's (hence the flat line) and the spike at the end of GWB's term when the Dem's had control (and GWB caved, admittedly).
This chart doesn't tell the story at all.
Cruz is making these cockroaches dance. Amen and pass the ammunition.
WSJ big amnesty supporters....complete open borders!!!
reid flogs the gop anyway. it’s what he does.
they’d bitch about some other thing or bitch about how they had to be arm-twisted last time.
now cruz is the bad guy cause harry would have spent a month saying bad things about republicans.
hint, he’sgoung to spend the whole month saying bad things about the republicans, anyway.
who cares about reid’s warped words and reality? this is why we are supposed to do nothing?
So the Wall Street Journal favors putting trillions of more debt on our children? What a farce of a “conservative” newspaper. Wall Street loves debt because they get wealthy off issuing paper.
Just wait until Cornyn and McConnell lose their seats in the primaries this year. This mouthpiece for the GOP-e will cry like a baby. The WSJ is as out of touch as the NYT...two dinosaurs that have outlived their credibility.
“Democrats had enough votes to pass the increase with a simple majority, which means they would have owned the debt increase.”
The Dhimms voted overwhelmingly to further bankrupt us, so if this Big Business/Big Government organ is right they still “own” it.
Problem is, they have “owned” it for decades but the LIV doesn’t understand that or doesn’t care.
What Cruz was doing, and he did it brilliantly whether the WSJ cares to admit it or not, was to flush out the Big Government Republicans who have primary opponents this year. Cruz just handed Stockman (or Stovall) and Matt Bevin a great opportunity—and caused Lamar Alexander, Lindsay Graham, and Thad Cochran heartburn by putting them in the position of not being able to vote in favor of the debt increase.
Great job, Ted!
Yes, the hypocrisy is not lost on what is supposed to be a financial newspaper seemingly expressing no concern whatsoever about the great economic disaster in the making./p>
When did the collective IQ of the population decline so much that they [the infamous they] can systematically rely on people believing and advancing transparent lies like we’ve been feed?
This article is why I don’t subscribe to the WSJ anymore. Who the hell needs to pay for idiotic leftist propaganda?
I’ say since the late eighties. Perhaps a. It earlier
Please refrain from crude expressions when there are ladies present. Thank you.
Oh, poor Paul Gigot, managing editor of the WSJ (and former PBS “conservative”) doesn’t like it when republicans are forced to OPENLY HELP THE DEMOCRATS for they would rather do that behind the scenes!
Please refrain from crude expressions when there are ladies present. Thank you
Cruz did NOT
force a shutdown in October. Obama had never balanced the budget in three years as the Constitution requires. He had been given a choice of balancing the budget, or a shutdown. Obama chose the shutdown. And he choose many silly things that would hit the voters the hardest.
I beg to differ.
“Oh yeah, after the Republican House passed it all the Liberal Media Pundits would have reported it that way. LOL”
As I understand it, the RATs actually passed this bill in the House with a very small number of RINOs assisting.
Vote RINOs out. The alternative is what you are observing...likely worse.
How would you phrase what I said to creat the same image?
No offense intended. Please provide an example of would I could have posted
and I will make a correction next time I post with the same idea.
>”As I understand it, the RATs actually passed this bill in the House with a very small number of RINOs assisting”<
Yes, but the Republicans are the Majority Party and Control the House. A RINO by any other name is still a Republican.
BTW - What Year Corvette do you have? I have a new C7.
I appreciate your willingness to consider my request. Thank you.
Perhaps you could say that Cruz had them on the ropes? He showed the world what liars they are? He put them in a choke hold until they squealed?
I know that there are probably a few around here who are sick of my scolding on this issue, but this grandmother just feels it is her duty to remind people that we need to return to polite discourse.
(Yesterday morning at the National Corvette Museum.)
I suppose it is a pretty good metaphor for what's being done to our country...
I wrote him a letter two days ago praising his efforts, urging him to stand strong and promising him that we will be sending him help in a few months.
I urge everyone to do the same.
As Americans, WE are used to patiently, and silently waiting for solutions to problems to come from the top down.
This lazy attitude has been the basis for most Corporate and Political Management structures in America for most of OUR History.
WE now have the ultimate in lazy, top-down, political structure: a rouge dictator whom WE allow to be above OUR Constitutional Law.
WE will continue to have the current Obama Dictatorship as long as the Chief Impeachment Official, ( CIO ), the Speaker of the House, is allowed by US to permit Obama to continue as a OUR Dictator.
In all of Obamas public statements, he has told the truth to US only twice:
1.) We are only five days away from fundamentally changing the United States of America.
2.) I have a pen and a telephone, and I will use them to issue Executive Orders whenever Congress fails to act.
Obama has thus defined himself to be OUR Dictator, and formally gave US fair warning of his intentions to do so.
For reasons that border on High Treason to the United States of America, Boehner as Speaker of the House, has failed his Constitutional Duty to begin Impeachment Proceedings on B. Hussein Obama.
The Members of the US House of Representatives have refused to force Boehner to resign; then to elect a Speaker with the required Sense of Honor to do his/her Constitutional Duty to begin Formal Impeachment Proceedings on B. Hussein Obama.
If WE, the taxpayers, do not force the Members of the US House of Representatives to replace Boehner as Speaker with a new Speaker that will issue the necessary Articles of Impeachment on B. Hussein Obama, then WE, the lazy, silent majority taxpayers, deserve to continue to have OUR Liberties crushed by Dictator Obama.
The future of OUR Republic is, as always, in OUR hands.
