The Minority Maker, Ted Cruz hurts his party by forcing a meaningless debt-ceiling vote
Wall Street Journal ^ | February 12, 2014 | Editorial

Posted on 02/12/2014 4:40:17 PM PST by Oldeconomybuyer

The Senate passed the House debt-limit increase on Wednesday, but not before some needless drama that helps to explain why Republicans remain a minority.

Democrats had enough votes to pass the increase with a simple majority, which means they would have owned the debt increase. But then Senator Ted Cruz —the same fellow who planned the GOP's shutdown fiasco in October—objected on the floor and insisted on a 60-vote majority. This is exactly what Democratic leader Harry Reid wanted because if the bill failed he would have sent the Senate home on recess and returned later this month to join President Obama in flogging the GOP as the debt-ceiling deadline neared.

reid flogs the gop anyway. it’s what he does.

they’d bitch about some other thing or bitch about how they had to be arm-twisted last time.

now cruz is the bad guy cause harry would have spent a month saying bad things about republicans.

hint, he’sgoung to spend the whole month saying bad things about the republicans, anyway.

who cares about reid’s warped words and reality? this is why we are supposed to do nothing?

So the Wall Street Journal favors putting trillions of more debt on our children? What a farce of a “conservative” newspaper. Wall Street loves debt because they get wealthy off issuing paper.

Just wait until Cornyn and McConnell lose their seats in the primaries this year. This mouthpiece for the GOP-e will cry like a baby. The WSJ is as out of touch as the NYT...two dinosaurs that have outlived their credibility.

“Democrats had enough votes to pass the increase with a simple majority, which means they would have owned the debt increase.”

The Dhimms voted overwhelmingly to further bankrupt us, so if this Big Business/Big Government organ is right they still “own” it.

Problem is, they have “owned” it for decades but the LIV doesn’t understand that or doesn’t care.

What Cruz was doing, and he did it brilliantly whether the WSJ cares to admit it or not, was to flush out the Big Government Republicans who have primary opponents this year. Cruz just handed Stockman (or Stovall) and Matt Bevin a great opportunity—and caused Lamar Alexander, Lindsay Graham, and Thad Cochran heartburn by putting them in the position of not being able to vote in favor of the debt increase.

Great job, Ted!

Its sad to see how far the WSJ editorial board, a once great institution, has fallen.

When did the collective IQ of the population decline so much that they [the infamous they] can systematically rely on people believing and advancing transparent lies like we’ve been feed?

This article is why I don’t subscribe to the WSJ anymore. Who the hell needs to pay for idiotic leftist propaganda?

Oh, poor Paul Gigot, managing editor of the WSJ (and former PBS “conservative”) doesn’t like it when republicans are forced to OPENLY HELP THE DEMOCRATS for they would rather do that behind the scenes!

Cruz did NOT
force a shutdown in October. Obama had never balanced the budget in three years as the Constitution requires. He had been given a choice of balancing the budget, or a shutdown. Obama chose the shutdown. And he choose many silly things that would hit the voters the hardest.

Good for Ted Cruz in forcing the weasel RINOS to identify themselves.

I agree.

There are those that claim there are bigger issues/strategies at stake here, that this was not worth fighting for.

I beg to differ.

“Oh yeah, after the Republican House passed it all the Liberal Media Pundits would have reported it that way. LOL”

As I understand it, the RATs actually passed this bill in the House with a very small number of RINOs assisting.

Vote RINOs out. The alternative is what you are observing...likely worse.

Yes, but the Republicans are the Majority Party and Control the House. A RINO by any other name is still a Republican.

BTW - What Year Corvette do you have? I have a new C7.

I appreciate your willingness to consider my request. Thank you.

Perhaps you could say that Cruz had them on the ropes? He showed the world what liars they are? He put them in a choke hold until they squealed?

I know that there are probably a few around here who are sick of my scolding on this issue, but this grandmother just feels it is her duty to remind people that we need to return to polite discourse.

I guess you both know about this:

(Yesterday morning at the National Corvette Museum.)

I suppose it is a pretty good metaphor for what's being done to our country...
