Subfreezing temperatures and a night of rain and sleet on top of Wednesdays snow promise to keep the Triangle largely shut down through Thursday night and possibly into Friday.
The second stage of the storm was setting in even as police and tow trucks tried to clear the vehicles abandoned on the sides of roads and highways Wednesday. Forecasters had predicted the storm for days, prompting Wake County schools to close Wednesday, but the snow seemed to catch thousands off guard, trapping columns of cars on snow-whitened streets and highways.

People don’t know how to drive anymore.
I personally believe it has a lot to do with safety equipment overload. One of the local driving instructors told me that they don’t even teach how to drive out of a slide anymore because cars have traction control now.
Give me a rear wheel drive car without all the safety equipment and a slick back road and I can perform a ballet.
Atlanta during the last storm and Atlanta from The Walking Dead.
OK.
The pictures I’ve seen for this storm show the streets deserted.
Never saw the movie, although it did look like a zombie apocalypse type to me.
Well you can mark the Golden Triangle in Texas off the list of possibilities. Weather is finally cleaning up there.
I believe this is the kind of weather my Dad talked about when he rode his horse to grade school.
Up hill both ways of course. ;-)
I know my Mom’s 77 birthdays was yesterday and her and her friends put off her Birthday dinner until next week.
Cymbal of the times...
If I’m starving that sounds good to me.

There are Atlanta FReepers out there that think this storm is rare and may not be repeated for years or even decades. All indications are that we are entering a new ice age and everyone should prepare for it.
Happy birthday to your mom. It is so quiet and peaceful out. Everyone is inside eating snow cream by the fire. I love it like this. No traffic whatsoever. They are saying 4-6” east of I 65 and that is this area. The friends I have talked with have said they wished it would snow instead of being so cold. We got our wish. : )
What are the shoe laces used for?
Ha! I lasted two years to almost the day. And I bitched, moaned and cried most of the time. Honestly, I was ready to leave day one. Certainly my former co- workers must rejoice on days like today that they no longer have to listen to me whine.
No, it's Phil Jackson's triangle offense.
For a vast majority of folks it was no big deal. Gas and water stayed on. It only dropped to the low 20s F. Open your oven and heat a couple of rooms. I don't have gas but have a kerosene heater. It was sorta like camping with a comfortable bed and running water.
Ran into some college kids that live a couple miles down the road. Horror stories..."We almost died...so cold".
I asked them why they didn't build a fire in the back yard, you're surrounded by tens of thousands of acres of WOODS!
They didn't think of that.
No - Research Triangle Park.
Research Triangle Park is the business/research area between the “triangle” of Durham, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill here in NC. Probably 50,000 or more people commute in and out of the area. RTP has one of the highest concentrations of engineers, PhDs in hard/computer sciences, and academics in general (includes pulls from three major universities.... Duke, UNC and NC State). It is very atypical to the general NC population.
Binding victims. LOL
They just make great all purpose ties.
