Ted Cruz Just Made Life Miserable for Republican Leaders Once Again
theatlantic.com ^ | 2/12/14 | David Graham

Way back in early February, we heard that Ted Cruz had decided to start playing nice with his fellow Republicans.

What a difference 10 days make.

After Speaker John Boehner moved Tuesday to pass a "clean" debt-ceiling increase, relying on Democratic votes in the House, it looked like the increase could have an easy path through the Democratic-controlled Senate. Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew said the nation would hit the debt limit at the end of the month, and with Congress on recess until February 25, Wednesday's vote was almost do or die.

But the freshman senator from Texas had other ideas, as he often does. Instead of consenting to pass the increase with a bare majority, Cruz announced he'd filibuster, requiring a 60-vote threshold to invoke cloture on the measure. Perhaps sardonically, he told Politico he didn't think that would annoy his GOP colleagues.

You can see where this is going. When the cloture vote came up Wednesday afternoon in the Senate, Democrats voted for it en masse, but the measure still needed a few votes to pass. After a tense hour, and with the nation's full faith and credit on the line, it fell to Republican Senators Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn to, well, pick your cliché: swallow the bitter pill, take one for the team, walk the plank. Once it was clear there were enough Republican votes to invoke cloture, several of their GOP colleagues joined them and voted for cloture. The final vote was 67-31, not even close. A short time later, the Senate passed the increase 55-43, in a vote that required only a simple majority.

It would be good to know which RINOs have serious primary competition? Please post if you know.

The writer fails to acknowledge what really happened here.

In the end, ten Republican Senators followed McConnell and Cornyn over the brink. However, thirty Republican Senators stood with Ted Cruz.

And, indeed, almost all of the ten would've preferred to stay on Cruz' side of the line, but had to be cajoled into following their "leaders".

It has become apparent that the GOP House leadership is living on borrowed time. Now, evidently, the same is true for the GOP Senate leadership.

Like rats hiding in the darkness Republican Senators Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn tried everything not to get involved but in the end they had to have their votes counted to pass the increase. No hiding no voting no to save their butt just a yes vote showing their true colors.

The leadership in the house and senate are a complete embarrassment and are the main reason why the republican party is being referred to by some as the cave party.

Sen. Cruz has healed my cynicism about pols in Washington of either party. For this I am both grateful & hopeful for the future of our Republic.

President Cruz in 2017 will lead this nation forth.

The Republican Leadership in both houses have lost their way. One has to wonder if they are being personally blackmailed.

“It would be good to know which RINOs have serious primary competition? Please post if you know.”

Graham, McConnell, Cornyn, Cochran, Alexander and Roberts all have primary challengers who could potentially win. The first blow can be struck on March 4th in Texas (early voting begins next Tuesday). If Cornyn is kept under 50%, there will be a runoff on May 27th. And McConnell’s primary is May 20th.

So we could potentially take out both McConnell and Cornyn in May, Graham and Cochran in June, and Roberts and Alexander in August.

“Cornyn came out saying how he voted against the bill. Voting for cloture was voting for the bill. I just blasted him by email. Wife and I will be voting against him next month.”

Two more votes against Cornyn here! Have not decided who I am voting for yet but it won’t be Cornyn. I also suggest all my fellow Texas freepers to send a letter to the editor regarding Cornyn, telling other like minded voters how he has supported, Crist, Spector, Chaffe, and Murkowski. A lot of Republican primary voters have little clue how Cornyn is such a RINO

After an hour? While all the RINO’s were staring at each other
wondering who was going to be the sucker?

Take your McConnell boot licking somewhere else.

1. Cruz informed McConnell several days ago he was going to filibuster.
I.E McConnell had plenty of time to line up the votes he needed.

2. If McConnell was so brave, why did it take him 45 minutes after
the vote opened to cast the 60th vote?
Because he was too busy trying to sucker someone else to do his
dirty work.

He’s keynote speaker at the Lincoln Day Dinner in Brazoria County. I’m sure his speech will be loaded with lots of double talk and that he won’t discuss about any actions he’s didn’t take against IRS, as an example, even though he’s on the oversight committee or why he continually stabs Cruz in the back. Republican Precinct Chair stated that although he’d gone a “little” awry lately, Cornyn’s still a solid conservative. Must be something in the water down there. I did go last year but this year I won’t be able to attend since it’s my night to change the cat’s litter.

Vote for STEVE STOCKMAN or DWAYNE STOVALL.

The key to sending Cornyn home is to see that he doesn’t get 50% of the Primary Votes.

We can do this!

In FACT, Cornyn pulled the pin of the grenade and then put it grenade in his pocket, like a total dumbass.

He and McConnell have done this to themselves.

Ted Cruz was just there to accept the pin.

Wish I knew how many of those 30 really supported Cruz and how many were scared to oppose him. Linda and Lamar were certainly in the latter group. It would be nice to know how far we have to go to obtain a reliable conservative majority.

The press does not appreciate how much the tea party vs establishment is a generational conflict. The establishment will lose eventually, no matter how much the press cheers them on to crush the tea party.

Stockman doesn’t seem like a serious candidate to me, unfortunately. I may vote for him anyway.

Removing incumbent RINOs attracts more attention and scares other RINOs into sometimes voting with us. But we also need to fight RINOs running for open or incumbent Rat seats. Wins there count the same in the end.

Scrolling down slowly, I was a bit concerned when the top of the picture came in view.

I thought it was a Bill Clinton channeling Anthony Weiner Tweet.

I'm doing all I can to BEAT HIS ASS in the primary.

I just give credit where it's due. He stood up (since no one else would) and Stuck his middle finger in our eye.

He's the ONLY RINO with balls...

He won't have them after May 20!!!!
