Mitch McConnell (R-KY)Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) needed 60 votes yesterday to increase the debt limit because Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) insisted that spending cuts be included.
Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) had a choice -- he could stand with Ted Cruz and conservatives or he could stand with Harry Reid and the Democrats.
McConnell sided with the Democrats and gave President Obama a blank check even though just two weeks ago he said passing a clean debt limit increase would be "irresponsible."

McConnell also pressured other Republicans to vote with the Democrats. The clerk was even instructed not to announce senators' votes during the roll call so McConnell could get them to change their "no" votes to "yes" votes without anyone knowing about it.
Here are the 12 Republicans who voted for cloture and helped the Democrats raise the debt limit without any spending reductions:
John Barrasso (R-WY) Susan Collins (R-ME) Bob Corker (R-TN) John Cornyn (R-TX) Jeff Flake (R-AZ) Mike Johanns (R-NE) Orrin Hatch (R-UT) Mark Kirk (R-IL) John McCain (R-AZ) Mitch McConnell (R-KY) Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) John Thune (R-SD)
After the vote, Ted Cruz made this statement:
"Todays vote is yet another example that establishment politicians from both parties are simply not listening to the American people. Lets be clear about the motive behind this vote -- there are too many members of Congress who think they can fool people and they will forget about it the next week. But sometimes, come November, the people remember."
Ted Cruz is right, but we need to make sure people in Kentucky remember this vote on May 20th and support conservative Matt Bevin over Mitch McConnell in the Republican primary election.

OOOh, my eyes! I just had a mental image.
Can’t have people disliking the GOPee, can we?
We can expose, but can the Republican primary voters of KY see? NO!
I wonder what kind of dirt Harry Reid has on McConnell and Cornyn?
Mitch gets credit and then there’s Boner:
John Cornyn’s main challenger in the TX GOP Primary, Steve Stockman, was all over this immediately. I wonder if Matt Bevins is going to capitalize off of this? Perhaps he has already and I just haven’t heard. Come on Matt; get on this horse and ride it until it falls down.
