On Jan. 1, 2014, tens of thousands of defiant gun owners seemingly made the choice not to register their semi-automatic rifles with the state of Connecticut as required by a hastily-passed gun control law. By possessing unregistered so-called assault rifles, they all technically became guilty of committing Class D felonies overnight.
Police had received 47,916 applications for assault weapons certificates and 21,000 incomplete applications as of Dec. 31, Lt. Paul Vance told The Courant.
At roughly 50,000 applications, officials estimate that as little as 15 percent of the covered semi-automatic rifles have actually been registered with the state. No one has anything close to definitive figures, but the most conservative estimates place the number of unregistered assault weapons well above 50,000, and perhaps as high as 350,000, the report states.
Needless to say, officials and some lawmakers are stunned.

Barry ... they’re not complying ... what do we do ?
They should be thankful it’s “civil” disobedience. Uncivil Disobedience could get...dicey.
Their lakes must be overflowing with all the guns lost on ice-fishing trips this winter.
Clueless "other officials" alert!
I have to say I am pleasantly surprised here, I didn’t think north-easterners had it in them. MOLON LABE
Gore urges civil disobedience to stop coal plants
this is not the disobedience you are looking for?
They probably sold them in the inner cities. It is safer to get your weapon stollen than deal with the government incarcerating without due process in prison which gun registration an confiscation is.
It is not civil disobedience, it is jail or jail calculation.
The dims cannot understand why the general population didn’t see the utopic vision being offered here. If you register automatic weapons then they couldn’t possibly be used in a crime.
"I honestly thought from my own standpoint that the vast majority would register," said Sen. Tony Guglielmo, R-Stafford, the ranking GOP senator on the legislature's public safety committee. "If you pass laws that people have no respect for and they don't follow them, then you have a real problem."
Real problem? Indeed.
When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.
I believe there is a definition for this, Anarchy.
It appears that there is an arms race between the American people and their government.
If I were a Connecticut resident in this situation now, I believe that I’d have to just tell LE that “the particular weapon was sold at a gunshow - no receipt, I lost it”. Then just make sure they never find it.
How long before the Gov sends out his jackbooted flying monkeys?
Hard to believe the American Revolution started in Taxachusetts. As did the original Tea Party.
All the state of Connecticut has to do is go to the background check list and start the 3:AM no-knock raids. It will be easier than the British marching on Concord. New Englanders just aren’t what they used to be.
At roughly 50,000 applications, officials estimate that as little as 15 percent of the covered semi-automatic rifles have actually been registered with the state.
Oh my. The lakes and rivers in Connecticut must really be clogged up with all those weapons lost in boating accidents..
There, Tony....read the above and say the words "illegal immigration." Then you'll understand, you idiot.
I think the most salient questions are, what makes them think that? How do they know? On what information is their "estimate" based?
When only a handful comply with the law, just what will they do?
Oh no its just that most of the people don’t know about the new law yet. Even though its on the news blogs 24/7 they just don’t know about it. LOL!!!
Does anyone know what a class D felony means in Conn.?
They can’t find what you don’t have at the address contained in the warrant.
When Paul Revere made his famous ride, to announce that the British were coming, the British were coming to take the colonists’ guns away.....................
Why would anyone register something lost in a boating accident?
I am stunned as well. GOOD for the people of Connecticut! Officials and some lawmakers might want to refer to the 2nd Amendment.....
I won’t be obeying any illegal laws coming from this illegal administration, or any other illegal law coming from any administration.
A person or person only have as much power over you as you give them, and I have taken all my power back.
They can send them out. It’ll be interesting to see how many come back alive...
Does anyone know what a class D felony means in Conn.?
No, but its a sure bet it means you can’t own any firearms.
Where’s the quote about “if we’d have just resisted a little bit instead of cowering when they came to our homes - if they had to worry about whether they’d go home to their families...”
I think it means whatever the government wants it to mean. Meaning, you walk if you turn in a neighbor or you go to prison if the prosecutor is a lesbian.
Awwww. The sheep aren’t sheep any more. How will they respond to this? Calling out the federal troops to fire on innocent American citizens?
I’m not surprised. When the Tri-State Chapter was having events in New York, one of our Connecticut members refused to come because he couldn’t come armed. Remember harpseal? He signed every post: “Stay well, stay safe, stay armed. Yorktown.”
On another note illegals drive drunk behind the wheel of a weapon and kill Americans and the politicians rejoice and protect
Rather than admit that the vast majority of Canadians had no interest in complying with the law (some provincial legislators in Alberta even went so far as to publicly announce that they were openly defying the law), the Canadian government simply pretended that their original estimate was vastly overstated.
The Canadian gun registration program disappeared without a whimper a few years later.
“If a law is unjust, a man is not only right to disobey it, he is obligated to do so.” -Thomas Jefferson
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.” - Samuel Adams
All the gun owners who rightly refused to register their arms are now at the mercy of foul and degenerate office holders.
The purpose of the Second Amendment is two-fold. First, it grants a person the right to defend himself and others. Second, it allows the people to rise up against despots. The Blaze article names several despots in Connecticut.
In reality, any weapon prohibited to a citizen should be prohibited to a police agency. If the state of Connecticut wants to limit semi-automatic weapons possession by the citizens, it must prohibit the police agencies in the state of Connecticut from owning, possessing, and using semi-automatic and automatic weapons. The same holds true for the federal government and federal police agencies.
Do away with the Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and limit the FBI (and the other federal police agencies) to six-shooters and billy clubs.
Put ‘em on double secret probation.
These “stunned officials” should go door to door......
