Federal spending and debt are out of control

A folly for certain, but it is part of the equation. We spend more on defense then the next 10 nations combined.
However nothing will impact our long term debt like cutting social security and medicare
Questions for anyone:
When will the baby boomers die off?
Will the social spending drop naturally as they die?
And we are spending more on defense probably because we are acting as defense for many other countries. That is something I want to see stopped.
Well, they’re heading into retirement now, so figure maybe 20 years? And no, spending will not drop. It never does.
That's because most of them sleep under a blanket of security that we provide. The socialist states long ago gave up on defense spending in favor of their social welfare programs. They are far too busy pursuing utopia, and equality, to worry about tyranny. They've learned nothing from history.

Welfare, in all is forms exceeds the Constitutional obligations of government, apparently by 100%.
Futher, this summary perpetuates a couple of smoke and mirrors technique.
It doesn't distinguish real (worker-funded) Social Security from welfare parasitic "programs."
It introduces mysterious expenditures with arcabe names like "Income Security and other benefits" apart from Social Security.
Total BS!!!
Eliminating the welfare parasitic programs in Social Security, like Mediaid and (self defined) Disability, and mystery programs like "Income security and other benefits" would certainly make real government constitutional duties healthy and viable.

Like, maybe if freepers are still chatting about investing/trading pse let me know & I’ll be happy to ping everyone, but I was reluctant to just keep on spouting my thoughts w/o feedback ‘cause I felt like I was spamming.
I’d like you to keep putting up that daily investment thread. It was interesting and FReepers need a way to see through the fog and noise. I am more macro and long term in my outlook. The number I’m watching is the velocity of money, but your threads were always interesting reads.
I very much appreciated them also. I didn’t comment that much but I always read and tried to absorb. You did a great job ex_pat.
What’s the biggest single job the federal government undertakes?
National defense? Nope.
Homeland security? Wrong.
Transportation? Not even close.
Law enforcement? No way.
Education? Getting colder.
Foreign aid?
Nope, the biggest single thing the federal government does these days is ... cut checks.
Lots and lots and lots and lots of checks that go to individual citizens — $2.3 trillion worth last year alone.
In fact, according to a table buried deep inside the little-noticed Historical Tables volume of the White House’s 2012 budget, these “direct payments to individuals” accounted for more than two-thirds of federal spending in 2010. That’s a post-war high.
