Israeli officials reacted on Thursday evening to Denmark’s decision to ban kosher slaughter as of next week.
Rabbi David Lau, Israel’s Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi, said that kosher slaughter remains the only humane way to prevent animal suffering.
“I will speak to the Danish ambassador to Israel and other Danish government officials, and if indeed this serious decision has been made, we will demand that it be reversed,” said Rabbi Lau.
The decision to ban kosher slaughter, he added, “seriously hurts the Jewish religion and Jews in Denmark.” …

The rabbi should tell the Danes they’re just slaughtering giraffes. The Danes don’t seem to mind that.

The real question is why are they banning Kosher butchering? Why on earth are they banning the most human method of slaughter for meats?
Look down the edge of a good butcher knife. If you see shinyness then it’s dull. If no shinyness than it’s sharp. One of the Kosher things I remember is that the knife has to be keenly sharp and maintained keenly sharp — to the point where it’s inspected between each and every slaughter.

Because it is no such thing. Just because something says something doesn’t make it true. Slitting an animal’s throat and waiting for it to lose consciousness is not the most humane method of slaughter. Perhaps 2,500 years ago it was one of the better methods available, but technology has changed a wee bit since then.
We have these neat little things called captive-bolt stunners now, they really are a huge improvement over iron-age tech in terms of humane slaughter, as well as in economical terms.
I frankly don’t give a damn if your religion demands that you hang animals upside down and slit their throats, whatever floats your boat, but can you please not spread bald-faced lies about it being “the most human method”?

I just got bored one day and read up on kosher laws.
You’re wrong. Kosher is just not about how you slit the throat. It’s all about animal stress. From herding them in to the slaughter.
You’re right about it stemming from BC time. Somebody saw one of your direct ancestors trying choke a cow with their bare hands and decided there were much smarter ways.

There are two issues in this story.
The first is to ensure as humane a death as possible, for the animals. I.e. they must be sedated before being killed.
Fair enough, I’m a favour of that.
But as practically all animals being slaughtered (pigs are of no concern in this issue) are sedated anyway before being killed, this is more about annoying the Muslims.
It has annoyed a lot of ethnic Danes that the political correct elite has basically caved in to the Muslims by only serving meat from animals that have been halal-slaughtered at public institutions like hospitals and kindergardens.
The ironic thing is that most Muslims actually don’t give a hoot... and those who do, well... the sooner they leave, the better.
So must slaughter houses have solved the problem by having a Muslim finishing off the animals with a bolt-gun, while he says a quick prayer. (That is if he is in the mood, has the time, does even care or hasn’t called in sick). And presto it’s now halal.
This is also very much to prevent orthodox Muslims in setting up their own slaughter houses (backed by Arab oli-money) and the government is basically saying it’s our way or animal cruelty.
The few Jews in Denmark who even care have been caught up in the middle.
