6 Republican Senators Switched Their Debt Limit Votes (Cornyn)
Roll Call ^ | 2/13/14 | Niels Lesniewski

Posted on 02/14/2014 7:17:34 AM PST by jimbo123

Six Senate Republicans switched from “nay” to “aye” on the critical vote allowing the nation’s debt limit to be extended, a copy of the official Senate vote tally sheet provided to CQ Roll Call on Thursday suggests.

The tally sheet is the only record of which senators may have switched their votes because the Senate clerk — in a break with tradition — didn’t name names during the nearly hourlong vote. Capitol Hill reporters are protesting that change, still within the rules, as lacking transparency.

The actual tally sheet that Senate clerks use to manually record votes is available to interested parties in the Capitol, and CQ Roll Call has posted a PDF copy.

Sens. John Barrasso of Wyoming, John Cornyn of Texas, Jeff Flake of Arizona, Orrin G. Hatch of Utah, John McCain of Arizona and John Thune of South Dakota appear to have switched their votes from “nay” to “aye.” It is possible that some of the markings on the page are due to clerical error.

The bad old days when these pricks could get away with that are, fortunately, gone forever.

We ARE watching. And REMEMBERING!

Pretty cool. Now when asked they can say, “I proudly voted against raising the debt limit”.

Now they can also say, “ I proudly voted for raising the debt limit”.

All depends on how the wind is blowing.

Makes me proud to live in Arizona. NOT!

The old “I was against it before I was for it”. Not just a Kerry slogan anymore.

I'm a little surprised by Cornyn and McCain being switchers. The RINOs needed 5 votes and I expected both of them plus McConnell would have voted for the cloture without a second thought and be the ones strong-arming other Senators.

as I understand it Mitch had to deliver 5 votes to make 60.
Susan Collins (ME)
Bob Corker (TN)
Mike Johanns (NE)
Mark Kirk (IL)
Lisa Murkowski (AK)

2 of these refused.

That’s what I find interesting.

My e-mail to Senator Flake; not that it will matter or change things but it felt good to send it. I keep thinking I should change my registration to independent but I am afraid it would unleash all the wackos running for office calling me, sending me junk mail and showing up at my door. We should be able to opt out of being contacted by politicians!

“Dear Senator Flake,
On your website you make a bold statement that you voted against the Debt ceiling hike; but of course you voted for cloture so that a simple majority could pass the bill. So technically, “you were for the bill before you were against it”. Where have I heard that phrase before? Do you think the conservatives in Arizona that help elect you are the same type of “low information” voters the Democrats rely on to win elections?
I regret that I voted for you and I can assure you that my family and I will not make that mistake again!
By the way, tell your RNC buddies to quit calling me and sending me junk mail! I quit giving to the Republican party a long time ago. I guess I am just a registered Republican in name only. Time to go independent!

Apparently Muttkowski refused unless RINO leadership voted first.

Murkowski was supposed to be the 60th vote, but she refused to take the hit for McConnell, and forced him to do it himself (for a change).

Can you change your voter registration to “decline to state” or some other non-partisan category? We can here in Cali and I did that when George HW Bush was in office. I rarely get any political solicitations for money.

But there was this tweet from Claire McCaskill:
“Claire McCaskill clairecmc·Feb 12
Only 3 Rs so far willing to avoid the default of America on its obligations. “
Meaning Mitch still needed 2 votes, not 1.
The media loves to protect Collins. They’ve got her pegged for Majority Leader next year IMO (”The First Female Senate Majority Leader! OOOH!”)

And why didn’t one of the six change their vote before Mitch had to vote? Several of them wouldn’t have to worry about blowback.

The reporting on this stinks exceedingly of BS.
