Republicans Now Trying To Impeach Missouri Governor

Two Republican lawmakers in Missouri have now filed articles of impeachment against the state's Democratic governor, Jay Nixon.

State Rep. Mike Moon (R) became the latest GOP legislator to join the effort to remove Nixon, after state Rep. Nick Marshall (R) put the wheels in motion earlier this month.

According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Moon's articles of impeachment cited Nixon's failure to call a special election to fill a vacant congressional seat in Missouri. Marshall, on the other hand, was driven to take action after Nixon issued an executive order last year permitting same-sex couples married in other states to file joint federal income tax returns.

Nixon said Thursday that he'd like the state to vote on same-sex marriage, adding that he'd vote to lift the ban on gay nuptials.

The governor, elected to a second term in 2012, dismissed the impeachment effort as a "publicity stunt."

Anything and everything we can do to attack the enemy is justified and the Democrats ARE the enemy.

The seat is in a heavily Republican district.
It would allow the R's to more easily override the gov's vetoes.

I believe that the gov was required to call for a special election.....thus not faithfully enforcing the law.
But I could be wrong on the special election thingy, the law might be more vague than I understand it to be.

“Impeach Nixon!”

Has a vaguely familiar ring to it.

He was a decent attorney general and actually not terrible his first term as governor. However, he has moved decidedly leftward since his re-election (knowing he doesn’t have to run again). Some think he’s making a move to work his way into good graces with the national democrats with his sudden sharp left turn.

Despite the fact that Missouri has become more conservative recently, the Republicans have done a terrible job of grooming candidates for statewide elections. We have a Democrat Governor, Treasurer and Secretary of State, plus Clair McCaskill—ugh). Republican super-majorities in the House and Senate. I know its difficult to overcome the 3am late night St. Louis vote tallies, but Missouri’s party leadership needs to groom some younger candidates for statewide elections. No more retreads, either. I think Sarah Steelman has run for pretty much every elective office.
