GARDEN RIDGE, Texas, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- The body of Leanne Hecht Bearden was found in Garden Ridge, Texas, almost a month after she vanished, authorities said.

She was last seen on Jan. 17 when she left her in-laws' house in Garden Ridge for a walk, CNN reported.

A passerby found the body at 12:15 p.m. Thursday in a wooded area near his home, city police chief Donna O'Conner said.

She was found LESS THAN A MILE FROM HER HOME hanging in a tree.

Possible suicide.

See the link in post 3.

“...had been traveling for 22 months before her disappearance.

They returned to the United States in December, and her family members said the transition was difficult for Leanne Hecht Bearden.”

I don’t understand how it would be “difficult” to transition from nearly 2 years of travel, to some stability?

I guess that’s the issue with suicide, the mental illness and stress isn’t supposed to be “understood”.

Oh she was hanging in a tree? Why would she do that after just traveling the world for two years?

New life: Leanne and her husband were planning to return to their home in Denver and find work after their trip.

I guess the thought of having to work was more than she could handle.

On the news here (San Antonio) it mentioned she was scheduled for a phone interview for a job in Denver the day she left on a walk.

I feel badly for her family, and the neighbor who found her. As one of the neighbors said, "I'm surprised we didn't notice the buzzards flocking to the trees"..I am sure that after a month, it was a traumatic discovery for the man who came upon her remains on his property.

Is there any explanation as to how they could have missed the body for over a month with 12 S&R canine/cadaver teams operating in the area -- and buzzards flying overhead???

Considering that around here the trees, and most vining stuff don't lose their leaves, and one is tromping through dead grass probably thre to four feet high, plus the weather extremes we've had..from 19 degrees to nineties, I can easily envision that. I would think that after the body was picked a bit by buzzards, and then "leavings" fell from the tree, that coyotes, possums, and raccoons had their fill..

During the search, people were looking down, not up...they would've been looking for an injured or unconscious woman, and also not wanting to trip over brush themselves.

There are homes in wooded settings probably 500 feet from my house, where one would be hard pressed to find someone.

A couple of years ago, a guy hanged himself in a tree, probably 75 feet from the shoulder of the road, and he wasn't noticed until two weeks later.

Aside from calling her name, when I've seen searches here, the folks have long walking sticks, they poke into the high brush as they make their way through.

I can understand how people in these search parties are just going through the motions as if it’s just another Sunday afternoon walk.

But the big search with 12 canine teams which included cadaver dogs took place 8 days after she was dead and only a few blocks away.

One would think that those canine noses would have been on that scent.
