Actress Maria Conchita Alonso loses acting job for supporting tea party
January 19, 2014 by Michael Dorstewitz
When a famed Cuban-born singer/songwriter/actress openly supported a California tea party gubernatorial candidate, the San Francisco Latino community responded much as one might expect with derision instead of acceptance.
Maria Conchita Alonso appeared with Assemblyman Tim Donnelly in a campaign ad promoting his bid for the GOP nomination. She added a Spanish translation and a little humor to Donnellys spiel, saying:
Donnellys conservative views include a strong opposition to illegal immigration. He was once associated with the Minuteman Project, a group that regularly patrols the U.S./Mexican border, according to KPIX

The backlash for Alonsos support didnt take long. KPIX???? reported:
The actress was to perform next month at the Brava Theater Center in San Franciscos Mission District in a Spanish-language version of The Vagina Monologues, scheduled for a run from February 14th through 17th. The show is being produced by none other than Eliana Lopez, wife of San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi.
We really cannot have her in the show, unfortunately, Lopez told KPIX 5. Of course, she has the right to say whatever she wants. But were in the middle of the mission. Doing what she is doing is against what we believe.

But Alonso garnered some support on Twitter from a fellow Latina tea partier with the Twitter handle, Michelle Texas Belle, who tweeted:
The First Amendment used to represent respect for other peoples rights to state their views, whether you respected those views or not. Im not sure what it means anymore. Ill have to get back to you on that.
UPDATE: Alonso appeared on Fox & Friends Sunday and was interviewed by co-host Clayton Morris.

The “tolerant” commie lib progs strike again!
We need a secret signal for Tea Partiers so she wouldn’t have to come out in public. Some sort of sign like a secret club. But then it wouldn’t be secret anymore.
Uh, okay. Why would any female with a “smidgen” of self respect and decency ever agree to participate in a play about talking Vuh jay jay’s anyway? That baffles the crap out of me.
C’mon we all know the routine by now. Free speech only matters when you’re supporting a left wing cause and you are a lefty yourself.
Maybe she can be Ted Cruz’ VP ?
Speak up people.
We have for too long allowed the left to define our entertainment.
Well done, Ms. Alonso. Speak up people.
That reminds me, I need to pick up a half gallon of milk on the way home today.
The new Hollywood Black List.
she’s gotten hotter with age.
Needs the salary im guessing.
Oh, my! What a gorgeous gal. She’s 56 and still screamin’ hot.
A little chunky, maybe. Just saying.
Definitely! And she is funny, gutsy and has her head on straight. One can see her knockout smile in "Colors" on Netflix (although the movie is obsolete).
It's terrible that she lost that incredible opportunity. Right-wingers should finance a competing production in which she can star, and then everyone who supports free speech (in Spanish) should go see it.
Hollywood ‘bigs’ are Totally against blacklisting... well, unless they’re the people doing the blacklisting.
Liberals are so tolerant. Libs should lose their jobs, but except for being overpaid actors, government supporters and rich people, what do liberals do besides causing Americans to lose freedoms.
