John Henson, a second-generation puppeteer, has died at age 48. Henson — son of Muppets creator Jim Henson — suffered a sudden heart attack on Friday. The news was confirmed by the official Facebook page for the Jim Henson Company, of which John Henson was a shareholder and board member. The younger Henson also worked on several Muppets projects, playing the character Sweetums in films including Muppet Treasure Island and Muppets From Space. He is survived by his wife, Gyongyi, and two daughters.

Very sad to die so young. Didn’t his father also die relatively young?

I’m wondering whether they had some sort of genetic anomaly like marfan syndrome. I remember that Jim Hendrix was tall. Was John the baby in The Labyrinth? I think he or his brother (if he has one) was the baby. We loved that movie. “You have no power over me.” sad that he died.

Yes; Jim Henson was only 53 when he died.

As a child, Henson appeared in his father's Numerosity films for Sesame Street as a boy showcasing "10 bells" and in the film "Memories" for Bufferin as the narrator's son.

"(Jim) Henson died on May 16, 1990, of organ failure resulting from a Group A streptococcal infection caused by Streptococcus pyogenes."

"John Henson ... died at age 48 of a sudden massive heart attack on Friday, February 14, while at home with his daughter."

Two completely unrelated causes.

Ditto ... what a great legacy of muppets they left behind. Fraggle Rock and Dinosaurs were absolutely brilliant.

One Streptococcus pyogenes infection is strep throat. (There are several others, impetigo, necrotizing fasciitis, and other nasty infections.)

How sad.

Jim Henson’s death still feels like a punch in the gut. He still had so much he could have done. Now for his son to die young too?

I knew a family who had 3 adult kids die within 5 years of each other....all were in their 40s or younger, and had seemingly been healthy before suddenly dying.

It was a congenital heart problem... Very sad, and the parents in their 70s soon joined them, probably of broken hearts themselves.

Shirley Temple, Sid Caesar, John Henson...

They always die in threes.
