Yet campaigners - including Lord Gifford, a British hereditary peer and barrister who runs a law firm in Kingston and advises the reparations committee - remain unbowed, saying that the slave trade “breached the natural law that man is free”.

Man is not so free that he can't bow to excessive taxes and government tyranny. What a load of BS from these reparationists.

Jamaica won its independence in 1962. Since then, a series of socialist governments have tried to run the country, with little success. The tourist areas are all built up and have great infrastructure. The outlying areas that aren't tourist destinations are terrible. Roads are neglected and not wide enough for two cars to safely pass each other some times, lots of potholes, very little sewage plumbing along the road. Jamaica gets a ton of aid from the U.S. and probably Great Britain. The politicians are just as corrupt as you would expect and nothing is done to fix the infrastructure of the outlying areas. Not to mention the crime rate, the early banning of all gun possession, etc. The British did not create these problems, the ongoing government dysfunction has caused this and the country's leaders are the ones to blame. BTW, the Brits left in place an excellent education system that is ongoing today for those who want to learn. Jamaicans who are able have left the island for greater opportunities in North America.

Good points. If things happened differently, there would have been a different version of "you" (and me). I think also every tribe, ethnic group, race, etc received the short end of the stick at one time or another. I was semi-joking about reparations, but if you go by the logic of those who came from slaves here in the Americas, if you go by that logic, then it leaves the question open for others to do so for whatever reason.

BTW, the car needs new tires so Putin better pay up. B-)

Asian Jamaicans ran the businesses in Jamaica because blacks were too lazy.

BTW, I think when you add in where a lot of the crimes are committed by those who are descended from the said slaves, I think we can make a big deduction from the reparations to the point where we can call it even. Heck, the other night, I was monitoring police comms on my ham radio and I heard a call where there was rock throwing at cars where the perps were Black. When I heard that, this thought came to my mind.
