SUNBURY Nineteen-year-old satanist Miranda Barbour admits to killing Troy LaFerrara of Port Trevorton. In a prison interview Friday night, she said that she considered sparing his life until he said the wrong thing. She also said LaFerrara was one of dozens of such victims she killed in the past six years.
Barbour, with her husband, Elytte Barbour, 22, of Selinsgrove, has been charged by Sunbury police in the Nov. 11 fatal knifing of LaFerrara. She requested an interview that was recorded by the Northumberland County Prison on Friday night.

She has morals and she's a victim according to the article. (sarcasm)
PA satanist murderer ping.
I would say, from a piece I read earlier, that she “admits” to killing the one man and “claims” to have killed others.
I don’t know if there is any evidence, at this point, that she’s killed anyone else. My guess is that she hasn’t, but I could be wrong. Hope I’m right, obviously, but I’m sure they’ll check out her story.
So far there is zero physical evidence she killed anybody else.
Not saying her story is impossible, simply that Occam’s Razor indicates that her story being a lie is more likely than it being true. We should wait for evidence before taking it too seriously.
I’m sure authorities are checking out her story; however, this has to my skeptical mind the whiff of Henry Lee Lucas, who claimed to have murdered a couple hundred people. He also claimed he was part of a Satanic cult called “The Hand of Death”. Texas Ranger Phil Ryan figured Lucas was responsible for no more than 15 homicides, though some police sources think Lucas’ body count could be around 40.
His partner Ottis Toole was finally ID’d as the killer of Adam Walsh.
Until bodies start turning up, I’ll stay safely skeptical. I’m not saying she didn’t do what she claims, but until there’s solid physical evidence, well......
It has been rumored that Satanists often kidnap or lure in homeless people to kill as they will not be missed.
Well, I suppose the Devil is in the details.
If Satanists vote, I wonder which party they prefer? Hmmmmm?
Here there be monsters!
If you see posts of interest to Pennsylvanians, please ping me.
I’ve heard that. The “outcasts” are easy prey for serial killers, as they figure no one will miss them. Street prostitutes, the homeless, etc.
Usually it doesn’t attract the attention of LE until the body count starts racking up, or the murders are committed in spectacular (albeit gruesome) fashion, like Jack the Ripper, the Yorkshire Ripper, Robert Pickton, the Zodiac Killer, etc.
“It has been rumored that Satanists often kidnap or lure in homeless people to kill as they will not be missed.”
IN my years of life, that has been substantiated, in 4 of the major cities that I have lived.
“If Satanists vote, I wonder which party they prefer? Hmmmmm?”
You’d be surprised. Some may vote Republican. Some may vote Libertarian. Some don’t care at all.
If the question was raised in jest, that was a silly notion.
Are any of these satanic cults real? I mean cults that would be killing people, not idiots dressing up in costumes, I’m sure those are real. (Not to minimize how messed up worshiping the devil is, even if it is just dressing up in costumes.)
All religions are equal.
She was just being true to herself.
She should have equal time with Christians for Christmas displays, and prayer at the start of public meetings.
It was written:
“Ive heard that. The outcasts are easy prey for serial killers, as they figure no one will miss them. Street prostitutes, the homeless, etc.

They are considered ‘training grounds’.
America is dealing with people that do NOT hold the loving, compassionate, filling-the-heart-on Sunday-morning, if no other time of the week, people. They are disassociated, or as was made a joke in the movie “Arsenic and Old Lace”, mercy killings since there is no one there for them in their senior years. There is no guilt, no shame, no fear of reprisal, since their mindset accepts no outer judgments.
I was a dissociate. It took a lot of work, and years, to learn how to care. Try wrapping your mind around that, dear reader.
That’s a good question. There’s lots of idiots - mostly teenagers - running around in black bathrobes thinking they’re a bunch of badasses.
There are LaVeyan Satanists (Church of Satan) but this sort of thing doesn’t strike me as “their style”.
There could well be some underground circuit of satanic cultists - nothing really surprises me, but I confess to being somewhat jaded and cynical. David Berkowitz, the Son of Sam Killer, claimed he was part of a nationwide Satanic cult, as did Henry Lee Lucas. How much credence to lend to such stories is debatable.
There was the whole “Satanic Panic” of the 1980s, triggered by the McMartin Preschool Trial, but that turned out to be - quite bluntly - media-driven mass hysteria.
Isn't this usually correlated with childhood abuse?
I once worked with a contractor who was a nervous wreck. I had long talks with him, and he told me about his abusive mother. The abuse was mental and emotional, more than physical. While she may not have been a formal satanist, I could only describe her behavior as satanic. She was about as mean as I can possibly imagine.
It is estimated that about 3% of the population are psychopaths. That’s about 10 million psychopaths roaming around. They have no conscience. If they want to do so, they will do anything. If they are really “good”, you won’t recognize that they are psychopaths. Scary, no? Watch out who you hang with.
Occam’s Razor is a tricky thing. Is the simplest explanation that, as the leader in this brutal tag-team murder, she was just making it up as she went along?
husband? this crazy whack job is married?
even axe murderers getting more loving’ then me
Married three weeks before they killed this guy. Happy honeymoon in jail, hubby.
Satanists are easily as messed up as Muslims. There are always people wanting to screw up the world more than it already is.
Sounds to me very like the woman the Dems nominated for governor of Texas.
“...David Berkowitz, the Son of Sam Killer, claimed he was part of a nationwide Satanic cult...”
That is interesting, I never heard that. Pretty sure that wasn’t true, he was just a murderous nut.
That whole day-care craziness which I think really started with that poor woman in New Jersey (Kelly Ann Michaels?) was really a despicable charade. Innocent people, sentenced to decades in prison without, really, a shred of proof.
Just a modern day Salem Witch trial. it’s a great failing of our country that we seem to do this every so often.
I just found out this is a few towns from our upstate family.
That was a Hollywood sex cult run by a carny savvy atheist.
Consider the politicos who engaged in sex (like Harvey Milk) and drugs with devilish cult leaders like Jim Jones.
Consider the political connections of a homosexualit serial killer like John Gacy.
Consider Saul Alinsky dedicating his book to Satan.
Consider all of the followers of these politicians and Alinsky.
"Ignorance" of their activities doesn't float. Perhaps they really HAVE gone over to the dark side.
You read tales of the Hellfire Club in Eng.land and its political reach. You read of modern sex trafficking scandals in the UK as well with royal, political, and entertainment connections.
Whether Satan favors them or not, some seem to revel in violating the 7 deadly sins.
I'd hit it.
I love women who still believe in Santa.
You are speaking of my future wife!
PS Valentine's Day serves as a reminder it's time to take down the Christmas decorations.
There is oftentimes evidence of satanic cult involvement in many infamous crimes—the Manson clan killings, the Son of Sam murders, the Columbine massacre, etc.—though the system will always downplay these links, as any serious investigations might lead to all sorts of unsavory revelations. Watch for her story to be shortly discredited as the ravings of a madwoman.
:) Yea till she chop’s off your head.
You are awesome. :-)
Frankly, as I see it, she just made herself into a national celebrity and is getting her 15 minutes of fame.
She made being a Satanist “sexy” and broadcast it to the world.
(belated) You’re welcome!
(Been out shoveling last few days - finally got out today and the State Stores are closed for the holiday :<
OMGosh,This last storm we had 15 inches.but no blackouts thank God.Think Spring.:)
Apparently she has designs on being a jailhouse celebrity.
Well, what I would like to see for her is life in prison with no contact to the outside world or even access to her jail mates. Just lock her up in a drab cell and throw away the key. Slide just enough food through the slot to keep her alive - but hungry. When the empty food plates stop getting slid out the slot - wait 7 days and then collect her corpse and run it through an incinerator.
For other would-be satanist killers, consider her fate your Miranda warning.
As far as I know we don't have that many missing people or unsolved murders in the interior.
I don' know any young people in that age group who might have known her. In my opinion the tall tale part of the story is bogus. She may have killed more than one, but she obviously did not learn how to hide her crimes. Practice makes perfect, and this was not the perfect crime...
She allegedly started her killing spree in the town of North Pole, AK, just outside Fairbanks:
Amid these gruesome claims, the tiny Alaskan town of North Pole has become the center of the outlandish story about satanism and serial killers that Barbour claims began at the behest of a cult leader. Barbour contends she joined a cult aged just 13 in the town of North Pole, where hundreds of news outlets have turned out since the lurid story broke....
What they don’t mention is that North Pole is not your ordinary small town. It is, in fact, the official home of Santa Claus, at least to the US Post Office.
Everything in North Pole is Christmas-themed. It is Christmas Day 365 days a year. The decorations are always up. It never stops being Christmas here. Never. Wherever you are in the world, if you write a letter to Santa, and address it simply “Santa, North Pole”, your letter will most likely end up in this tiny Alaskan town.
The streets have names like Frosty Avenue and Kris Kringle Drive and Santa Claus Lane. The streetlights are decorated with a candy-cane stripe pattern. Volunteers answer all the letters from kids who write to Santa.
And she has help. Each week in November and December, a box of Santa letters is sent over to the nearby Middle School where the town’s 11- and 12-year-olds - the sixth graders - write back in the guise of elves. It is part of the curriculum.
Miranda Barbour, then, would then almost certainly have been involuntarily drafted as one of Santa’s elves, and even given her own special elf name. But apparently the job can be emotionally tough at times:
(Volunteer Debbie) says she can frequently be found alone in here in floods of tears having opened yet another heartbreaker. “Just before you got here,” she says, “I opened one that said, ‘Dear Santa. All I want for Christmas is for my mother and father to stop shouting at each other.’ I just fell apart.”
Another thing they haven’t mentioned yet was an unusual event in that same small town about a year before Miranda allegedly joined the cult: the town was the scene of a serious planned mass school shooting:
Six of last year’s Middle School elves, now aged 13, were arrested back in April(2006) for being in the final stages of plotting a mass murder, a Columbine-style school shooting. ....they had elaborate diagrams and codenames and lists of the kids they were going to kill. .... What turned those elves bad? Were they serious? Was the town just too Christmassy?
At least a few of the town’s young people aren’t so enthusiastic:
Her name is Jessie Desmond. ... We meet in a non-Christmassy bar of Jessie’s choice on the edge of town. She’s in her early 20s. She was educated at Middle School.... “Christmas really grates on me, all the time, in the back of my head,” she says. “Christmas, Christmas, Christmas. It drives me nuts.” ....Dusk is falling. One of the town’s two giant Santa sculptures - the one outside the RV park - lights up. Eerily, however, it is lit from below, which gives Santa’s eyes a hollow, creepy look, like Jack Nicholson in The Shining.
All six of the elves arrested were goths, as were an additional nine elves that were to act in support roles.
Nine other students at the school, including at least one girl, were suspended for withholding information and will not be allowed to return to school until authorities have completed the investigation.
And they were going to kill dozens of their classmates. This sounds to me like civil war, the non-Christmassy kids against the Christmassy ones.
[Interview with local teen]
“Do you ever get an overdose of Christmas, living here?” I ask him.
“Pretty much all summer,” he says.
“What do you do to redress the balance?” I ask.
“I come here(video arcade) and shoot people all day,” he shrugs.
The question is, did the town’s Christmassy orientation mess Miranda up?
My week in North Pole has made me suspect that the job can mess you up. There’s poor Twinkle in the lotto shop, constantly in tears, powerless to help. Then there’s Jessie, realising that if she was the magic, then the magic was rubbish.
Jessie told me she wouldn’t be surprised if the plotters were in part set on their nihilistic path as a result of being letter-opening elves.
Did the satanic cult deliberately choose the home of Santa Claus to mock Christianity? Was the cult already entrenched in North Pole at the time of the school shooting plot, perhaps even helped organize it? Or did they move in afterwards, figuring all those goth kids were ripe for recruitment? Interestingly, one the participants said “We were just going to shoot the bad kids,” mirroring Miranda’s comments about just killing bad people.
“I was a dissociate. It took a lot of work, and years, to learn how to care.
Isn’t this usually correlated with childhood abuse?
I once worked with a contractor who was a nervous wreck. I had long talks with him, and he told me about his abusive mother. The abuse was mental and emotional, more than physical. !!Very close, St.t.
Repressed, or as once known ‘teenage anger’, can, until it is known for what it is and what effects it wroughts, make someone a very nasty person.
Remember the cartoon of the shell of a man or woman, with what they really were saying, as a separate little man or woman inside them, and we thought that was funny? Now imagine the person, as described above, at the moment of inter-human contact and dealings, with the inner person being in a leather jacket and an open switchblade in hand.
Get the picture?
The values that other kids get taught, become nothing more than ‘a repeat by rote, and they leave you alone’, which, until recently, even included Boy Scout values. They believe none of it, because what they are being told, is not what is going on. That includes church, for some of them! (Go tell your local clergyman THAT, and see how angry they get.)
You can see why ‘a lot of work’, and a lot of it won’t get fixed in a therapist’s office. There is a story about someone I met, attempting to feed their “counselor”, (for lack of their attested title) through a shut ‘chicken-wired-window’.
Only when ‘ a moment of clarity’ or ‘a personal epiphany’ happens, can the work start.
She also claimed to have a back-alley abortion at thirteen She told her mother about it, and was taken to the doctor. The doctor said there was no sign of any abortion.
BTW Palmer is about three hundred road miles from North Pole and Fairbanks.
Methinks she is setting herself up for an insanity defense.
She might be making up the stuff about the 22 murders, but the satanism stuff seems to be real:
Interview with her mother:
“She went on to discuss her daughters childhood.
(Miranda) ran away from home when she was 12, Dean said. Her daughter grew up in Alaska and has an older sister, Dean said.
(Miranda) got hooked up with a guy (in Alaska) who was into satanic stuff, and when she came home one day, she told me that he owns her now.
The mans name was Forrest, Dean said.
“I asked her what she was talking about, and she told me that this man owns her and she has to do whatever he says, Dean said. She said he branded her by carving a swastika on the back of her neck and his name on her thigh.
She told me she was out prostituting at 12 years old and that this man was her ruler. “
I told (Miranda) when she was in Alaska, she needed to stop all of this and get away from these (satanic) people, Dean said. She was involved in this satanic stuff and this man (Forrest) still has a hold on her. Its heart-breaking.
One day Miranda came home and said she wanted to change her life, so Dean sent her to North Carolina to live with Mirandas uncle, Arlin Fletcher. ....
She said she knows her daughter participated in satanic rituals, but was unsure about the nature of them.”
One version has her leaving North Pole at about age seven. Yet others suggest she was there longer:
Barbour claimed that, while in Alaska, she had been involved in killings in Palmer, Anchorage, Nome, Wasilla and Big Lake. (no mention of North Pole in this account)
—Barbour, 19, who lived in North Pole and the Mat-Su, left the state in 2011, according to Alaska records.
—Public records show Barbour filed for Alaska Permanent Fund dividends for years from North Pole and Anchorage addresses, the Anchorage Daily News reported.
(though apparently not from any Palmer or Wasilla addresses)
The FNSB school district has no record of her after the first grade..
