One of the Met Office’s most senior experts yesterday made a dramatic intervention in the climate change debate by insisting there is no link between the storms that have battered Britain and global warming.
Mat Collins, a Professor in climate systems at Exeter University, said the storms have been driven by the jet stream – the high-speed current of air that girdles the globe – which has been ‘stuck’ further south than usual.
Professor Collins told The Mail on Sunday: ‘There is no evidence that global warming can cause the jet stream to get stuck in the way it has this winter. If this is due to climate change, it is outside our knowledge.’
His statement carries particular significance because he is an internationally acknowledged expert on climate computer models and forecasts, and his university post is jointly funded by the Met Office.
Prof Collins is also a senior adviser – a ‘co-ordinating lead author’ – for the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). His statement appears to contradict Met Office chief scientist Dame Julia Slingo.
Last weekend, she said ‘all the evidence suggests that climate change has a role to play’ in the storms.

I am 69 and I have seen much worse than this in the Carolinas. Back in 1970 I lived on the edge of Charlotte, NC and we had a period when running streams froze, I saw a small pond frozen so thickly that a horse stood on it and licked the ice to a depth of several inches in an attempt to get a drink. We had days when the HIGH was twelve above! In 1973 I lived where I am now and we had 17 inches of snow here along I-95 about seventy miles inland from Myrtle Beach, one area to the South reported just over two feet of snow. We also had other strange weather that year. In ‘69 I lived just South of the NC line and we had freezing rain that destroyed every single utility pole in a huge area and wrecked forests. Some homes were out of power until the spring.
One thing was different then, we didn’t have any idiots claiming it was all caused by global warming. No one then was crazy enough to even consider such a damned fool idea.
Just spreading the good word....me...I'm preping for global cooling....as a start am adding another layer of siding to my house complete with 3 ins of insulation and a second set of double glazed windows on top of the existing ones.
Dr Archibald, credited as the first scientist to develop a method for using solar sunspot cycles to predict temperatures, instead said solar activity suggests global temperatures will cancel out previous warming and fall 2 to 3 degrees Celsius by 2040.

Gee every higher than normal temperature is always evidence of global warming, but this record setting winter weather either is ignored or explained by some tortured explanation that it is warmer someplace else so that it is colder here. The bottom line is that the global warming cult is just a convenient disguise for those who want more government control.
. Seems to me just about all man made climate change is outside of our knowledge. Which of course makes it easy to blame any climate event on climate change.
As the left realizes it has flogged the life out of every phoney issue it has frothed at the mouth over, global warming may be its last refuge.
Ha.....only those on the "list"...starting with Holders people....

As I remember being taught about King Canute’s statement : he was showing that not even he, the King, had the power to order the tides to change. Thus he was saying, there are limits to my power, and it does not extend over the forces of nature.
Of course, messiah Obama thinks his power does exist over nature.
You are spot on. The climate goes through cycles short and long. When hurricanes are severe, the global wormers (spelling intentional) yell “global warming”. When we have unusually cold weather and we say “some global warming”, the scream “it is just a weather event”
