Seattle, Wash. — At an organizing event and rally for a $15-per-hour minimum wage, Councilmember Kshama Sawant emphasized the movement should not accept any watered-down version of the wage increase

“I’m throwing down the gauntlet,” Sawant said, declaring herself the first politician to support a true $15-per-hour rate.

She and other rally speakers cautioned against politicians and businesses who say they support a minimun wage increase but want loopholes and exemptions.

But others who make more were there too. Baba Kofi Weusi Jana, who has a doctorate, teaches computer science classes. He can only find part-time work even though he makes $60 an hour when he’s in the classroom.

There ya go. Freeloaders come in all shapes and sizes.

Why $15 an hour? Why not $100?

Come on Seattle make it $50. $15 is such a wimpy number. Now balance your budget on the businesses you have left.

Talking about the mayor’s committee, Sawant said, “The Seattle City Council has set up another committee whose sole goings on is to follow what’s going on with that first committee, and then the first committee has set up sub-committees to carry out the work of the committee. We’re going to need another committee just to keep up with the definitions of these committees.”

It's a political technique known as "sandbagging", and its purpose is to prevent people like Ms. Sawant from making a mess of things.

“We’re going to need another committee just to keep up with the definitions of these committees.”

One of the universities I attended, back in the Late Triassic, had a Committee Committee.

Raise the minimum wage to $15/hour, then force the minimum-wage fanatics to pay the difference.

There once was a sign on the highway after the Boeing unions were holding out for more money that read, “Will the last person leaving Seattle please turn off the lights”. It well may be re-posted soon if these ignorant Marxists have their way.

Actually the sign dated from 1970 when the government cancelled the supersonic transport contract with Boeing.

From Wikipedia:

Sawant was born to Vasundhara and H. T. Ramanujam in Pune, India in a middle-class family of the Brahmin caste.[5][7][8] Sawant’s mother is a retired principal and her father, a civil engineer, was killed by a drunk driver when she was 13.[9] Sawant’s observations of poverty in her native country and her unhappiness with the Indian caste system helped shape her political views before her adoption of socialism.[8][10]

Sawant grew up in Mumbai where she later studied computer science and graduated with a B.Sc from the University of Mumbai in 1994. Sawant married her husband Vivek, an engineer at Microsoft, and moved to the United States.[11]

After moving to the United States Sawant decided to abandon the computer engineering field. She began to pursue study in economics due to what she described as her own “questions of economic inequality.”[12] She entered the economics program at North Carolina State University where she earned a PhD. Her dissertation was titled Elderly Labor Supply in a Rural, Less Developed Economy.[5][13]

Sawant moved to Seattle in 2006 and, after hearing a speech by a Socialist Alternative organizer, became a socialist. She became a United States citizen in 2010.[

Taking from the man that has funds and giving to the man that has none, makes neither have enough funds.

It is also an Alinsky tactic to paint the opposition as against the poor wage earner. The Clarion Hotel off International Boulevard has closed down its restaurant as a result of SeaTac’s jump of the minimum wage up to $15 an hour that was enacted through voter initiative. Another hotel company—Hotel Concepts—that owns and manages 11 hotels in Washington state has decided to shelve plans to build a hotel in SeaTac. Han Kim, who runs Hotel Concepts, said, “Uncertainty is bad for business, and right now we’re right in that area so we’re just putting everything on hold.”

Hospitality workers around the SeaTac area are finding their hours cut, or their jobs eliminated. On worker said they cut her hours so she is making the same amount of money she made before the wage increase.

Communists like Kshama Sawant never live in he real world. Utopian demands become totalitarian when they are humanly impossible.

The only thing that raising the minimum wage benefits is the union hierarchy. It is unbelievable how rich those union parasites get off the backs of their slaves. Everyone else gets their wage increase gobbled up by inflation and lost jobs through automation.
