Closing the gap-America’s labour market has suffered permanent harm
The Economist ^ | February 15, 2014 | The Economist

IT TOOK barely a month for the bubble of optimism that formed over the American economy at the start of the year to deflate. Job growth slowed sharply in December, and stayed weak in January, suggesting more than bad weather was to blame.

The unemployment rate, though, tells a much cheerier story: it dropped to 6.6% in January from 7% in November. Indeed, it could soon hit the Federal Reserve’s 6.5% threshold at which it may consider raising interest rates.

When are we going to call out the gov’t on their bogus unemployment rate?

I don’t think it is permanent harm, but it certainly will not be repaired under a socialist mindset.

Many people can live better by not working than they can by working. What is the incentive to get educated, work hard and achieve something?

The destruction of the work ethic is not something from which it is easy to recover. It's a culture killer.

And as such, you will hear more ‘Progressives’ proclaiming the ‘new normal’ as a good thing.
Detroit here we come.

After our new president is inaugurated in Jan 2017, I hope the first thing she does is to sign an excutive order, changing the way unemployment numbers are reported, to accurately reflect exactly what she inherited from obama and the rest of the rats and rinos.

The economy isn’t downsized enough to fit the worthy, yet.

Me neither.

If we eviscerate some of the worst regulatory agencies and implement my tax plan, businesses and jobs would flood back into this country.

Nully's Modest Tax proposal:

1. Eliminate ALL corporate tax.
1a. Eliminate ALL depletion allowances and depreciation allowances.
2. Eliminate ALL current IRS regulations.
3. Set the individual tax rate at 10% regardless of income.
3a. Perquisites at taxed at 10% of cost.
3b. Withhold at the rate of 11%, to get a refund you have to file taxes, but there is no legal imperative to file.
4. Tax ALL money coming into the country at 0% (yes, ZERO%).
5. Tax ALL money leaving the country at 10%.

Get rid of the EPA, Departments of Agriculture, Energy and Education. Institute a Flat Tax and slowly (over a 30 year span get rid of all deductions).

“After our new president is inaugurated in Jan 2017, I hope the first thing she does is to sign an excutive order...”

Good luck on that. When she carpet bagged her way into taking over Moynihan’s seat in New York, her first act was to propose a bill getting rid of term limits. Does that sound like someone who’s going to try and right the ship?

Come to think of it, that may be the only bill she proposed during her term. She was a useless placeholder for the party!

Why in the world would you think I meant Clinton when I used the pronoun “she”?

In context with the rest of my reply, it should be obvious that I was not referring to Clinton.

Can you use “obtuse” in a sentence regarding Graybeard58? I can.
