Kansas’ Anti-Gay Segregation Bill Is An Abomination
Slate via Business Insider ^ | 02/16/2014 | Mark Joseph Stern, Slate

Posted on 02/16/2014 6:56:37 PM PST by Carbonsteel

On Tuesday, the Kansas House of Representatives overwhelmingly approved a measure designed to bring anti-gay segregation — under the guise of “religious liberty” — to the already deep-red state. The bill, written out of fear that the state may soon face an Oklahoma-style gay marriage ruling, will now easily pass the Republican Senate and be signed into law by the Republican governor. The result will mark Kansas as the first state, though certainly not the last, to legalize segregation of gay and straight people in virtually every arena of life.

Well, you would still be correct Cripple.

Racism is not a pretty thing, but in this day and age, do you really think a "No Blacks Allowed" Tavern would thrive?

Who sure it may go over well with the Turner Diaries crowd.

But it simply isn't viable anymore. But the Government shouldn't be there to hold your hand.

Brooker T. Washington though the way to end segregation was to be educated, upright and prosperous citizens.

So the Racist White Man who worked as a car cleaner could drink out of his water Water fountain while the Wealthy Black Shop Owner could drink out of his.

Thus it would come to an end that way.(sadly though W. E. B. Du Bois, the Van Jones of his day though had other ideas)

I want to treat people with respect and assume the best, but I cannot and will not be an enabler for **private behavior** that God tell me is sin.

People are free to do what they want in the privacy of their own homes, and I don’t want a government that presumes the power to tell any of us otherwise. But when two sodomites want to get “married” and to hire me to throw my artistic talents towards supplying them with a service to contribute to that “ceremony”, I am going to decline to accept their money, and to provide any service.

If we allow government to attempt to force me to provid service, I consider this to be a form of tyranny that is not much different than enslavement.

And the behavior of the sodomites about my refusal affirms to me that “gay marriage” is far more about destroying and redefining that godly institution than it is about equal rights.

Business Insider loves the government telling businesses what they must do.

Exactly. People will naturally segregate themselves in many cases and those are people who should stay away from each other but I suspect the numbers are really quite small.

It was one of the primary reasons Goldwater opposed the civil rights act as passed. It stepped over the line and into the private sector and has been a disaster ever since.

Correct again Cripple.

Which means you get a Pop Quiz!

Which Future President helped Filibuster the 1957 Civil Rights Act?

And Which Arizona Senator supported it?

People should be able to run their business any way they want and suffer or benefit for their choices (including handicap accessibility - IMO).

Personally, I totally agree with you.

Unfortunately there are many right here on Free Republic that disagree with you when it comes to their personal pet peeves. They are all bent out of shape because some government entity has forced some businesses to cater to a certain segment (in this case gays) or go out of business, yet applaud that same government entity when it forces another business to stop catering to a certain segment (in the case of smokers) or go out of business.

I imagine these same people would be up in arms if a baker who was gay refused to do a wedding cake for a heterosexual couple.

Exactly. And we’ve been turning into the former Soviet Union ever since on the issue of government involvement in private business.

I know Goldwater supported the 57 civil rights act.

Future democrat president in opposition could have been Kennedy.

Just like when Coolidge was pushing anti lynching laws, they were met with democrat filibusters again and again.

I'd wish the gay businessmen luck and ask them to join the fight for personal freedom.

Goldwater did the support the 57 civil rights act under Eisenhower.

While I don't know about Kennedy.

Lyndon Johnson was Majority (minority?) Leader at the time and he helped kill it.

Coolidge did alot to try and unite America.

He granted Native Americans Citizenship. And him and Harding stopped a disastrous Naval Building Race with the British.

Kansas’ Anti-Gay Segregation Bill Is An Abomination

What's the abomination, exactly?
Not too many decades ago, these perversions were examples of the definition of "perversion."

My Father, the product of a Jesuit education, always taught me to define terms at the outset of an argument. He was right - and the failure to do so on the part of the Right has done great harm to us.

America demands Justice for the Fallen of Benghazi!

O stranger, tell the Lacedaemonians that we lie here, obedient to their command.

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

Who holds the Kansas Ping List?

Nobody, insofar as I know.
If somebody does, please pop me a line so I can update my list of state ping-lists keepers.
