Where was Cornyn? (2009 Stimulus Cloture Vote Flashback)
Politico ^ | 2/9/2009 | Glenn Thrush

Texas Republican Sen. Jon Cornyn -- head of the GOP's Senatorial committee -- has been an outspoken critic of Democratic stimulus efforts, but he chose to skip tonight's cloture vote on the package without offering a detailed explanation.

Cornyn was the only no-show -- except for Commerce Secretary nominee Judd Gregg, who recused himself.

So where was Cornyn?

"He had a long standing commitment and since it was cloture vote and no vote is like a "no" vote, he stuck to it," wrote spokesman Kevin McLaughlin in an E-Mail to Politico. "Obviously [he] is against [it] and will vote no on final."

We followed up, wanting to know why Cornyn skipped what we described as an "enormously consequential" vote.

"It was a cloture vote," McLaughlin replied, "How was it 'enormously consequential?'"

Just a reminder that Cornyn voted for cloture on Obama's stimulus bill by SKIPPING the vote.

But Cornyn's ads say "He Stands Up To Obama. ...Pushes Back!"

Yeah, Right. ...just like last week when he rolled on his back and peed himself.

They rely on the American public not following or understanding the tangled rules of Congress. But we learned a lot during the corrupt passage of Obamacare, including what a cloture vote is. They are very consequential. Republicans who don't take a stand during them clear the path for democrats to pass legislation. The cloture vote is in many cases the real battleground.

Why do you suppose so many in TX support Cornball? Is it more than just a lack of knowledge, a real mystery?

Is he the only GOP being primaried march 4? if so they lets focus effort on it.

He is going to proudly claim how he “pushes back” against Obama? Thats like saying he “pushes back” to the tiny little girl on the school yard who somehow has miraculously gotten control of the sandbox.

Attention FReepers: Please note Theodore's comment. It is apparent, from ALL of his posts on here, that he is a RINO lover and he supports John Cornyn. Do NOT let his posts upset you. He's a RINO troll. Are the FR Moderators paying attention?

Vote early TexasCajun because I’m praying for high winds and thunder storms on March 4th. Those who want Cornhole defeated will swim to the polls to vote. I want to keep the uninformed voters who vote only b/c they recognize the name, at home. EARLY VOTING STARTS FEB. 18.

No, he did not. Either voting “No”, or not voting at all give the exact same result on a cloture vote. The only way to reach cloture is with 60 “Yes” votes.

What you said! He implies Texans are stupid. I asked what he was doing to help Cornyn’s opponents. Silence.
