A school hosted a congratulatory event for its straight-A students, which would not normally be a controversial event
but the America we live in has changed. No longer do we push our children for excellence
now we make excuses for mediocrity.

The true marxist wants everyone to be “equal.” In the marxist “mind” everyone has the same abilities, so differences in outcome are bad and must be denied, condemned, or explained away.
Of course, the socialism taught in journalism school instructs us that the successful are to be punished and the mediocre are to be praised. We're all entitled to exactly the same results, right?
Glenn should invite that reporter on his show to explain her position. I would LOVE to hear her take.
I couldn’t believe the part in the video where the reporter asked the black boy if having straight A’s makes him smart, and then laughed at him. I thought she was going to accuse him of “trying to act white” any second.
Now readers can understand that achieving high grades is considered ‘acting white’ and is frowned upon by blacks. These black reporters are prime examples of hateful racism. This is the hateful racism that holds black children back.
I wonder if state basketball champions ever got any kind of special treatment for being successful?
Only a showoff with right-wing DNA would get an “A” in a subject knowing it could damage other students’ false self esteem.
In the long run, we will look back and know that McCarthy was right.
"Ego Te Absolvo!"
My daughter scored a 35 on her ACT. Take that liberal reporter!
It has been obvious for decades that McCarthy was correct. That is the very reason the media worked so hard to destroy him.Just as they also belittle G.W. Carver and other blacks who worked productively. The media is made of people who never had to really WORK for pay, just spout BS.
My son just got a 5 year scholarship for his PHD at Penn State, he worked 5 jobs to get it. Take that Marxist Media.
Pray America Wakes Up
36 is the top score on the ACT. Less than 1/3 of 1% score a 35. Only about 70 people in the nation each year score a 36.
Soon “A” students will be classified as bullies!
I would have given anything if the boy had been able to blast her back with “Getting straight A’s doesn’t make me smart, being smart makes me get straight A’s”
What incredibly stupid people we have working in the media. I guess it’s becoming the last hideout for the incompetent unachievers.
Look at the olympic tantrums to see these kids in a few years.
These teachers, parents and ‘reporters’ are what is wrong with America/the world today.
I didn’t have any thing to compare it to. Congratulations to your daughter!..............................
Did she ask “Why you be all Actin’ White?”
Being smart is necessary but not sufficient to get straight As.
It is also necessary to work hard.
Of course, if the scale is dumbed down enough, everybody will get straight As!
Public schools are marxist by the way they teach, then reward the ones who play by their rules.
get good grades —> reward: pizza, soda, and dance invite
get bad grades —> reward: soda and dance invite
get horrid grades —> reward: nothing
this is infuriating to the left... and echoes the real world effort and achievement model of capitalism
what they want is:
get good grades —> get pizza, soda, dance and a new car
get bad grades. —> get pizza, soda, dance and a new car
get horrid grades —> get pizza, soda, dance and a new car
don’t show up —> get pizza, soda, dance and a new car
everyone gets the prize... paid for by someone else... all while praising the local political type
lesson: there is no benefit to pushing to succeed. do nothing, vote for us, and we’ll steal it from others to give to you
Every day we get closer to the world of “Harrison Bergeron”.
For egalitarians, phase one is to indoctrinate youth to have resentment against achievement and to accept the abandonment of rewarding high achievement. Then, comes phase two, which is the use of government coercion to actively punish high ability and efficiency and to reward inability and mediocrity .
I don’t disagree with much on this thread, but I do think that parents, teachers, and others telling a kid that he or she is very intelligent isn’t terribly productive and in the medium and long run hurts the kid.
Doing well in school is important, but there are other important things and swelling a child’s head about any of those things isn’t good.
I’ve never seen or heard of George Washington Carver belittled. Examples?
I’ve excelled at every level of schooling, from grammar school through law school. I learned to answer that question honestly. No, it doesn’t make me smart, it just means I prepared for the test and knew the answers to the questions they asked
No it came OUT of our schools not crept into it.
The whole "everybody is a winner" was birthed and nurtured in the public schools.
I love how the “reporter” corners the kid by stating, not asking “doesn’t that seem wrong”, and the kid responds “I guess”. Shame on that reporter.
The correct response is “no I am not smart because I make good grades I make good grades because I am smart.” This should be followed by a pitying shake of the head.
>Did she ask Why you be all Actin White?
When I taught at a almost all black school I heard that quite a few times - disheartening.
The liberals are spending a lot of taxpayer dollars working to keep the kids stupid. They are expected to be programmed, NOT EDUCATED, in our publik skools.
Guilt. That’s all the marxist have to use to bludgeon the achievers into handing over more in the ever expanding government extortion racket. If achievers learn to stand up to them, to say “I earned this, I did this, I’m proud of my work”, the marxists have nothing.
“I swear by my life and my love of it that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.”
The real problem this woman has is that the students were being rewarded for “acting white”, while other students were not rewarded for choosing ignorance.
“Did she ask Why you be all Actin White?”
I hear that all the time here in NYC. Lots of black and Puerto Rican kids say that all the time in addition to “she think she white.” No matter how times change some people just stay the same.
It's even more than that. One must CONSISTENTLY work hard. Every assignment gets done completely and accurately and is turned in on time. For every exam and quiz one must be prepared to excel. If the "A"s aren't reserved for students who do this, then the grades become meaningless.
I think that is only true if one then fails to point out that the world is full of very intelligent people and that what leads to success in life is using that intelligence to educate one's self and to make intelligent choices as well as working hard to accomplish worthwhile goals.
I've worked in some pretty rarified atmospheres where you could throw a rock in any direction and hit a super-intelligent person with a doctorate in a hard science or engineering. There was no room in that environment for ignorant slackers. "Be smart and work hard", is the lesson I would impart.
I see nothing inherently wrong with telling a little black boy that he is "smart". His pride in his intelligence and accomplishments at school can overcome the peer pressure to be mediocre. Depending upon his parents, this may or may not be something he hears at home, though his accomplishment to this point would seem to argue for wise parenting.
You are quite correct.
I had the capability, but not, at the time, the drive or incentive to get straight As.
Regretted it ever since, of course. But giving me an A then so I wouldn’t feel bad about it later would not have done me or anyone else any favors.
The only blacks I hear being praised are the “reverends” of politics such as Jesse Jackson.Ignoring accomplishments, of those blacks who work(ed) hard productively within the same system as have whites, is a form of belittling.
Equality in misery.
Maryland “Freak State” PING!
Perhaps the journalism school graduates are jealous of “A” students?
I am female baby boomer who could stand to lose a few pounds, but I think it is so unfair that I can’t be a runway model. Where’s my pity from the media?
Doing well in school is important, but there are other important things and swelling a childs head about any of those things isnt good.
Oh, you are so right.
I don’t think rewarding kids for a job well done is “swelling” their heads. Kids need to be encouraged in their efforts, and as long as it is not overdone there can’t be any harm in it.
Kids know which ones among them are smart, average and slow.
Poll needs freeping:
Should kindergarten attendance be mandatory?
