Ruger is in the orange.

TOPICS: News/Current Events

I thought this was pretty amazing.

I wonder why the disparity?

I wonder why the disparity?

I think on the whole a Ruger is going to be a less expensive weapon.

But over all on the chart - I am surprised not at all.

Ruger has a broader product line and better pricing than Smith. The quality between the two is comparable. So Ruger is doing better in lean times

I own RGR stock and have been paring back my position of late as comps will be difficult. Even though sales are plateauing, they are doing so at a very high level.....but Wall Street will not get this concept. There is only 1 analyst who follows RGR and he has been horribly wrong for years.

Ruger has modernized their line. For example, Bill Ruger didn't think that us peons should have hi cap mags. He passed. Now they offer hi cap mags.

Also, the mini line (of which I've owned three), was not very accurate. They redesigned it with a stiffer barrel. The "tactical mini" series is doing well.

Smith and Wesson, on the other hand, it still putting that idiotic clinton zit on their revolvers. They're alienating a huge segment of the market.

I'm surprised Ruger hasn't outperformed Smith even more.

My guess is the 10-22 and the LCP.

I think you are right...but these are not lean times for weapons manufacturers.

That said, it is strange that Ruger's stock is selling at the P/E multiple of 13.90+-...and they pay a healthy dividend.

BTW, Ruger will announce 4th QTR results on 2/25/2014.

I have owned weapons of both manufacturers and am equally fond. But Ruger is really putting out some great new products. Like their SR-556 which I own and really like (great workmanship)...

That 10-22 takedown model is really slick. I’ve got my eye on a pair of them for me and Mrs L. I also recently purchased an SP101 for my everyday CCW piece.

Try a S&W M&P 15-.22. Great elegant, reliable, accurate little .22 lr M&P rifle.

I have been thinking of taking a position ahead of the 2/25 earnings announcement, but as you say, investors are simply not getting their heads around the reason why weapons are selling at such a high rate.

While the world economy is getting huge, there is also a race war being pushed by Obama and Holder (hence the weapons build-up).

Colin Flaherty of WND is on top of what is developing. If Obama has his way, America will look like South Africa before he leaves office (or shortly thereafter).

Why he would want such violence, I have no idea?

The country was doing fine racially before he came on the scene.

I own both as well. But to be honest most of S&Ws are older. The last 10-12 years have been all Ruger. Not because of price but variety.

I still hold a small position in RGR as I could not bear to sell all of it. Perhaps if it hits 150 in the next year I will sell it, but the divvys are so nice as RGR pays out a percentage of income instead of a fixed rate. Very nice when earnings are expanding.

Ruger makes one...and it is a beaut.

The Ruger® SR-762

BTW, the Ruger piston system is easy to clean...keeps the crap off the bolt carrier group.

It took ‘em a while, they tried to make a .308 a while back:

had to settle for 7.62 x 39.

I own a 10-22 (my second; son “got” the first one years ago) and I once owned an LCP. Didn’t like it; sold it and bought a S&W Bodyguard .380. Love it!

HST, I have also owned several other Rugers, and I liked them. I am not surprised their stock is doing well.

Ophonybama has turned out to be the best gun/ammo salesman in American history. Bet he has stock in Ruger and S&W. LOL!

They make a mongrel 9mm model too with moonclips...very strange but I know people buy ‘em, I suppose to take advantage of having 9mm ammo.

The .357 is a fun, sturdy little brute, especially with some Hogue grips on it. Take a look Tex, but beware...once you hold it you’re going to want to buy it!

I've got an old SP101 (a Speed Six)...beautiful thing.

Love to shoot it...keep it in my night table next to my bed...and next to my Baby Glock 9mm (they are good friends).

But it's a little too heavy for everyday unless you keep it in your vehicle or wear a big open-carry leather holster.

I own a Kel-Tec P-32 for pocket carry. I prefer the Ruger LCP .380 but what the heck....there is really no difference between the KT and the Ruger LCP.

Just did a quick review of ATK. A definite consideration for buy.

Will see where the market heads this week. I like to buy when the market takes a good hit.

But then one must strike while the iron is hot!;-)

If you come up with any other good buying opportunities, please share! I will do the same.

You don't know if there is a ping list for such stuff, do you? Perhaps we should assemble one.

Also, the mini line (of which I've owned three), was not very accurate

The original Mini-14 was a lovely rifle with a horrible barrel. At 100 yards with good ammo it was a 6 inch group. I sold it.

I have heard good things about the new Mini-14 with a descent barrel.

My minis (2 14s and 1 30) were minute of pie pan. The problem was the barrel taper where it comes out of the receiver. It was too thin and a harmonic vibration occurred. Barrel whip. There was an after market device called accu strut. It was supposed to stop the vibration.

The new minis have a thicker barrel at that point. They're supposed to give 1 inch groups at 100 yards. I might try another one someday.

I have the "ranch" stainless version. You're correct. The light barrel strings vertically as it warms. Mine has under 100 rds down the tube. I've considered accurizing it, but I shoot so infrequently that it doesn't strike me as a good way to spend money. I have other better .223 launchers that are genuine tack drivers.

You are correct. Mine would climb up and to the right at about a 45 degree slant. The impact points would be almost perfectly aligned. I traded it in on an AR-15. An AR is not pretty but it is utilitarian. Keep it clean and it will do the job.

Agreed. AR-15 is a decent platform. As little as I shoot, my bolt action rifles are superb. Even the single shot T/C Encore fits my style. A handful of .22LR and my dad's old bolt action Stevens was always enough to put a few rabbits on the dinner table.
