Too old to get lifesaving drugs: Anger at plan to deny treatment if you've had a 'fair innings'
The Daily Mail ^ | 17 Feb 2014 | JENNY HOPE and DANIEL MARTIN

Patients who have had a ‘fair innings’ could be denied life-saving drugs under proposed health reforms. The plans would mean experts taking into account whether there is a ‘wider societal benefit’ to giving a patient crucial medicines. The NHS rationing body, Nice, fears the Department of Health proposals could see younger people deemed a higher priority for drug treatments because they have more years ahead of them – potentially contributing more to the economy – than the elderly.

Doctors, MPs and campaigners last night condemned the plans as ‘barking mad’. The move will also fuel fears that the elderly are receiving a worse deal from the health service than the young.

Cancer charities have already warned that ‘cruel restrictions’ mean older patients have been denied medical treatment, regardless of a proper assessment of their fitness levels and how likely they could benefit from treatment. Sir Andrew Dillon, the head of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, said he was concerned about the new rules and feared they would lead to older patients being penalised in a ‘hard-nosed’ and ‘crude’ economic approach.

The reforms, which are being consulted on, would see new drugs assessed for the first time based partly on whether they would benefit society as a whole – not just the patient. For example, a drug that helped people to live longer in an expensive care home, or on welfare, might have a ‘negative’ social value not outweighed by the benefit to the individual, because such patients take more from society than they can put back. Sir Andrew said: ‘There are lots of people who adopt the fair-innings approach: “You’ve had 70 years of life – you’ve got to accept society is going to bias its investments in younger people.”

He said an initial assessment by Nice suggested that accounting for ‘wider societal benefit’ would inevitably tilt funding away from the old because younger patients had more to gain from treatment and more to give back.

Coming soon to America...compliments of Obamacare.

The people uttering these words have homes. Find them.

They have families. Find them.

They go shopping, out to dinner, the movies, etc. find out when and where they do these things.

Get in their faces, publicly. Give them no peace. Give their families no peace. Protest in front of their homes. Tell their kids that their mommy or daddy wants other peoples mommies, daddies, and grandparents to die.

If that doesn’t work the information learned can be used to implement more extreme measures.

Saw this coming a mile away. What the Obama adminstration really wants to say but won’t because they have such a large base of uninformed LIV young and middle aged voters that they need is “die you old white bastids, die!” Jarret is definitely keeping her promise to payback white Americans. They want the Old Guard to die so they can operate unopposed.

Well, Jeremy Bentham is still sitting around the University College London, so I guess it’s the greatest good for the greatest number if the elderly just pass on in order to not burden the young unnecessarily.

It would probably be easier to simply look up the CEO’s of AETNA cigna and the other insurance companies in The States, as they all do this already. This isn’t an NHS vs For-Profit thing, it’s every health care system that prioritises based on outcomes. As for this becoming policy on the NHS, not gonna happen.

Private insurance companies can pull this quietly, State-Run systems are (usually) too transparent

Like the victims of Nazism, these elderly will have their valuables stripped from them (through paying for any healthcare, rather than getting any help with it) before being sent off to die.

National Institute for Clinical Excellence. Not kidding. And (don’t tell anybody!) the young already get more treatment than older patients. But the younger people are still paying into the system. What do you think our Govt will do when they are faced with spending their (read taxpayer) money on older people?

Exactly. But these rules never apply to the leftist “elite”. They can suck up exorbitant resources at the middle classes’ expense until their overdue dying day. Same with the underclass. There is an alliance between the elite (started to say leftist elite, but these days...) and the underclass to leech off the productive middle class until they kill it.

Under marxism the individual is nothing. The collectivity is everything.

Once the productive class is gone, what do they intend to operate on? Just keep printing money until China takes over?

I have told so many people who were all for obamacare- many of whom are sick, disabled, have cancer or are HIV+- that they are of NO use to the country if they only represent a drain instead of a contribution. Sickness IS A DRAIN.

None listened, all voted for BO and they will in all probability be paying for their vote with their lives. This WILL be coming here one day. Death panels are a reality.
