Criminologist: 'More Youngsters Killed in Bicycle Accidents' Than with Guns

Responding to a recent report that Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America (MDA) and Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) conducted about the dangers of guns in public schools, Northeastern University criminologist James Alan Fox said the annual risk of gun-related death in school is "well below one in two million," and "many times more youngsters are killed annually in bicycle accidents."

Because of this, Fox said he "trusts [MDA and MAIG] would support a national helmet law as quickly as a gun restriction."

According to USA Today, the report by MDA and MAIG claims "44 shootings" took place in schools since the heinous crime at Sandy Hook Elementary in December 2012. Rather than argue with that figure, Fox shows that it is "lower than two decades ago when gang violence was especially problematic at school settings."

In other words, there is a downward trend.

And because of this trend, Fox warned that coating schools with cameras and metal detectors and practicing lockdown drills "not only fail to prevent some teenager or adult determined to wreak havoc on innocent children and their dedicated teachers, but they send the wrong and excessively scary message concerning the risk."

Time to register and regulate those high-cap assault 10-speeds. Nobody needs more than three speeds!

Ban bikes that have more than 1 speed, nobody needs more than 1 speed. A 10 speed is senseless over kill.

My high capacity assault bike has 27 speeds. I’m a danger to society.

Besides car accidents, I think drownings are the number 2 cause of accidental deaths in children.

Racing bikes haven’t had 10 speeds in many years

Most are 2X10 or 2X11 right now so either 20 or 22 gears with a double crank or up to 33 with a triple Crank. The really top shelf ones are shifted with battery operated servos

A top of the line racing bike can cost $15,000

Sorry for the double post

Many Green groups or at least significant minorities in those groups do not like bicycles at all.

1. They think that Mountain Bikes damage the wilderness environment and scare wild life.

2.Most higher end road bikes are now made of carbon fiber which cannot be easily recycled. As the carbon fiber does not rot it is a bad item to put in a landfill

3.Bikes take up road space that is, in their minds better used for mass transit.

4. Lastly if you have to take a shower after riding the bike you use a lot of water.

All this helps convince me that the environmental movement is about control not the environment

high retroactive taxes on the existing bikes libtards own.

separate laws and licenses for owning bike chains. can’t peddle a bike anywhere without chains.

ban non-metal frame “stealth” bikes.

taxes on more than one bike per person. why does someone need more than one bike?

ban all bikes wth more than ten gears. nobody needs a bike with more than ten gears.

require all bikes to be smart bikes, that won’t let the user peddle unless the owner’s rfid identity tag is present.

expel any kid coming to school on a bike drawing a picture of a bike, or saying the word “bike”.

Yeah, but you can’t convince these people with common sense. This isn’t about public safety at all. It is about control. I know, that’s an old refrain, and nothing new to the regulars here on FR... But it needs to be repeated, and we need to keep arguing back with common sense too.

I have been thinking about this for maybe 10, no 5 minutes. It seems to me that the women who want to ban guns are mostly post-menopausal types who also want to ban phallic symbols of any kind. Think of pop tarts chewed into a phallic shape resulting in children being targeted for some kind of punishment and their parents often dragged into the mess. Children having fun playing some game that results in a pointed finger and balled fist, phallic symbol again, yelling, Bang, Bang,(slang for sex), is there a connection?

Ever wonder why the women involved in the ban of guns are very often the ones least likely to be raped? We are talking unattractive women, we have all seen them, overweight women who seem to enjoy getting in a man’s face and screaming their hateful venom and occasionally resorting to violence, is banning guns their way of getting back at the home coming queens?

Now we get to the meat of the matter, as their hero, Gloria said, ‘A woman needs a man the way a fish needs a bicycle.’. I have no idea what that means but if history is a good indicator we should stock up on bicycles and parts very soon.

The point I am trying to make in my convoluted fashion is this is not a war on guns but a war on the penis. The war can only be won by our side if each man pledges to service one unattractive, loudmouthed, hirsute woman per week. I am willing to help fight the war on guns any way I can but there are some things I cannot do. The spirit is willing but the flesh just aint going to. I have laid out the plan its up to the guys with no standards to win this war.
