HARARE (Reuters) - Former congressman Mel Reynolds has been arrested in Zimbabwe, an immigration official said on Tuesday, after state media reported the convicted sex offender had been found with pornography at a local hotel.

Police and immigration officials were investigating Reynolds for living in the southern African country without a valid visa, Francis Mabika, an assistant regional immigration officer, told Reuters.

Mabika said Reynolds has been in Zimbabwe since November, but declined to give further details.

Reuters was unable to reach Reynolds for comment. A spokeswoman for the U.S. embassy in Harare declined to comment.

The state-owned Herald newspaper said the former Illinois congressman had been arrested at a hotel in the capital Harare on Monday, where he had been found in possession of pornographic videos and pictures.

Even in the African kleptocracy of "Zimbabwe" immigration laws are enforced. But not here in USA. What the hell is wrong with the US Government? Must be Democrats and their GOPe enablers. Yeah, I think so.

Maybe helping Mugabe is not the primary reason for being there. Perhaps the former congressman is a sex tourist.

Another thread reports that the scumbag wasn't "in possession" of porn, but FILMING it! My guess, filming kiddie porn in the afore-mentioned hotel!

Just imagine the morals and character of the people who vote to fill it! They should put a 12 foot high barbed wire wall around the entire District and sow the perimeter with land mines.

Reynolds was a Rhodes scholar.

Clinton was a Rhodes scholar.

I think R Maddow was a Rhodes scholar.

Anyone else think that the Rhodes scholar selection committee might be a bit loopy?

” $24,500 in unpaid hotel bills”

how do you do that in Zimbabwe?

Now that I think of it, I recall reading somewhere that nobody uses Zimbabwe currency anymore, and the government doesn't object to the use of US dollars and EUs (as opposed to some countries where accepting foreign currency is frowned upon, or even illegal.)
