Signs urging voters to “Retire Mitch” began springing up over the weekend in Louisville, Lexington and northern Kentucky, providing the first concrete evidence of a national tea party group effort to take down U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell.
FreedomWorks for America — which announced last month that it was endorsing McConnell’s Republican primary challenger, Matt Bevin, and would spend up to $500,000 toward that cause — paid for the signs. The group also is organizing others to begin canvassing neighborhoods for Bevin this week, said Russ Walker, FreedomWorks’ national political director.
"We have distributed over 5,000 signs around the Louisville and Lexington area and another 5,000 Bevin signs will be distributed this week,” Walker said.
There are reports of the black and white “Retire Mitch” signs throughout Jefferson County, in Prospect, Jeffersontown, Fern Creek, Valley Station and St. Matthews, in Lexington and in Fort Mitchell.
In most locations, there are many of them — sometimes dozens — often grouped together in the public right-of-way, which is illegal. In at least one spot along Arnoldtown Road in southwest Jefferson County, crews from Metro Public Works & Assets removed about three dozen signs Monday after receiving a complaint that they were in the right-of-way, said Harold Adams, an agency spokesman.

As an assistant Deputy US Marshall operating out of the Lexington office his duties frequently take him into Harlan and Jackson Counties.
He is comfortable with the upper strata in Lexington and the good ol’ boys in the coal fields of Eastern Kentucky. His attitude would be reflective of many.
We know his boss Deputy US Marshall Art Mullins was depicted listening to Rush on for him a rare stake out.
