Exclusive: Mega-donors plan GOP war council
Politico ^ | February 18, 2014 | Alexander Burns and Kenneth P. Vogel

A group of major GOP donors, led by New York billionaire Paul Singer, is quietly expanding its political footprint ahead of the midterm elections in an increasingly assertive effort to shape the direction of the Republican Party. The operation was launched discreetly last year, with the previously unreported formation of a club called the American Opportunity Alliance to bring together some of the richest pro-business GOP donors in the country, several of whom share Singer’s support for gay rights, immigration reform and the state of Israel. Around the same time, Singer and his allies also formed a federal fundraising committee called Friends for an American Majority that raised big checks for a select list of the GOP’s most highly touted 2014 Senate hopefuls.

Looks like the GOPe pay masters are getting ready to strike against the Tea Party. That is why I doubt the GOP will ever embrace any reform message to try to break the Northeast Corridor corporatism because the monied interests would be against that.

Follow the money.
Or (GOPe) chase the money.

You’re right.

But I wonder how much longer the mega’s will want to BE ‘mega’ all on their own ... and when they will run out of the ‘MEGA’!

Bump!

And if they continue, it will be a given that a 3rd party happens. Just what the ComDems want.

The GOP was once, at its founding, the ‘Third Party’............

Interesting bio on Paul Singer found here.

Yeah, it is Wikipedia, so it is suspect. But since I always hear the Overt Marxist party denouncing the Koch Brothers (who actually produce valuable goods and services which help make America move toward energy independence), and I've never heard an unfavorable word uttered about Paul Singer, I consider himself nothing more than a bag man for the GOPe.

Yeah, he donated $100,000 to the Club for Growth once. Good for him.

It hurt me more both financially and emotionally to donate $15 to the Sierra Club once upon a time when the local chapter (temporarily) blocked development of a wetland I then felt we needed more than another strip mall.

So McCain/ Feingold didn’t “take the big money out of politics” as it was reported? It was really in incumbent protection act all along.

Hopefully this will be as successful as the $100 million these same mega-donors gave to Karl Rove to blow on the last election with such great results . . . . .

Singer is an activist for gay marriage. His son is gay.

Except that’s not the game. The game is Tea Party plays spoiler. We don’t have to win every election, we don’t even have to win 75%. All we have to do is keep spoiling the Rino GOP party. Even 1 win can be a spoiler.

I don’t want a Rino GOP Senate Majority until McConnell is gone.

“Watch money. Money is the barometer of a society’s virtue. When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion — when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing — when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors — when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you — when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice — you may know that your society is doomed. Money is so noble a medium that it does not compete with guns and it does not make terms with brutality. It will not permit a country to survive as half-property, half-loot.” A. Rand

They appear to be in lockstep with the ‘Rats so one wonders why they donate to the GOP. I have to think it is a burrow-from-within project of the type the left is so good at. They seek to completely coopt the GOP and deliver the corpse to the bolsheviks.

an increasingly assertive effort to shape the direction of the Republican Party

The direction of the Republican Party is already cast in stone. Its stuck on stupid and dedicated to appeasing, compromising and losing.

The big money and embedded culture of never playing to win or stand for conservative principles make any attempts to reform the party a futile exercise.

My great-great granddaddy was a polygamist, but I'm not an activist for bringing back polygamy.

Although I will say that it is far less deviant than gay marriage. It even had some advantages, though not enough to defray the costs.

And therein lies the difference between the Tea Party and the GOP. We can’t be bought, we refuse to sell out our convictions, and we won’t compromise our principles.

“a reputation for strong-arming his way to profit.”

The original vulture fund guy.

Charming. The financial equivalent of a loan shark's leg breaker.

Wonderful to be associated with this venal piece of work.
