ORLANDO, Fla. — Florida education officials have officially adopted a handful of changes to school standards known as "Common Core State Standards."

The changes were adopted Tuesday during a State Board of Education meeting in Orlando.

The benchmarks for learning in language arts and math were adopted by Florida in 2010 and have been approved by more than 40 other states.

The standards were developed by a coalition of state leaders and establish what a student should know to be prepared for college and the workforce.

State Education Commissioner Pam Stewart also said she remains "on track" to make a decision in March regarding a new statewide testing assessment. It will replace existing tests which are primarily known as the FCAT.

Those changes would go into effect next school year.

Military training establishments aside, regarding the Department of Education, note that the states have never delegated to the feds, via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate, tax and spend for schooling purposes.

But the newest chorus of complaints is coming from one of the most liberal states, and one of the earliest champions of the standards: New York. And that is causing supporters of the Common Core to shudder.

Carol Burris, an acclaimed high school principal on Long Island, calls the Common Core a “disaster.”

“We see kids,” she said, “they don’t want to go to school anymore.”

Common Core is like putting Moo-shell in charge of school lunches

Instead of wasting time “correcting” what you cannot, toss it straight into the Dumpster.

This is great, but the leftist response is similar to that of criticizing Communism itself, that is, that it went wrong only because it wasn’t implemented correctly. This is essentially what Cuomo’s comeback is.

Like everything else from the left - the only way to ‘fix’ it is to get rid of it. Completely.

WE have a constitutionally elected State Superintendent of Public Instruction in Wisconsin. Don’t ask.
