CPAC Welcomes Gay Rights Groups After Years of Exclusion
The National Journal ^ | Wednesday, February 19, 2014 | Beth Reinhard

Posted on 02/19/2014 8:42:04 AM PST by kristinn

Meet the kinder, gentler Conservative Political Action Conference.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, snubbed last year after palling around with President Obama, is coming. So is GOProud, the gay rights group that was banned for the past few years amid noisy boycotts from critics and supporters. There's even a panel debating the merits of medical marijuana.

"CPAC is about finding conservative solutions to every challenge in America and not just saying 'no'," said Al Cardenas, chairman of the American Conservative Union, which runs the conference in Washington, D.C. "We're determined to win the majority of American support."

The annual debate over CPAC's participants and focus reflects the broader, ongoing dialogue over growing the conservative movement and the Republican Party without compromising core principles. Gay rights are a major part of that debate, as conservative groups remain firmly opposed to gay marriage despite polls showing increasing and majority support.

The dispute with GOProud dates back to 2011, when a number of socially conservative groups, including the Heritage Foundation and the Family Research Council, objected to the group's involvement and declined to participate. Insults were traded between GOProud leaders and ACU board members, culminating in the group's exclusion.

Two former GOProud summer interns, Ross Hemminger and Matt Bechstein, took over last summer and sought to repair the bitterly frayed relationship. Under a compromise reached last week, they will attend the March 6-8 gathering as guests, without sponsorship or a booth. GOProud sees the lower-profile role as an important first step.

"We really just want to be part of the conservative movement," said Hemminger, a veteran of the losing Senate campaigns by Scott Brown and Gabriel Gomez in Massachusetts. "We want to establish a fruitful and respectful relationship."

I agree with Kansas; there is a lot of diversity among gay people; there are those whose identity is wholly their sexual orientation, and others who have conservative values and just want to live their lives without being harassed.

It is foolish to turn down the support of people we do not agree with 100%

In my hometown, I happen to know an entire beauty salon of closeted Republican homosexual hairdressers.

Ironic, isn't it, that it's their Republican identity that they feel they must keep hidden from their peers?

translation: CPAC is dead.

they are under the delusion that homosexuals giving money means they will be left alone.

Can we attract their votes without watering down our values?

That is for them to decide. Two party system, limited menu.

If public affirmation of what they perceive of as their as their identity is their core issue, then no, we cannot win their hearts without defiling ourselves.

If they choose to laugh it off, and accept that their peculiarity is not something conservatives want to hear about or accommodate, they may choose to vote conservative/RINO/Republican anyway.

The same goes for any special interest group or identifiable demographic subset that has a problem with full-spectrum conservatism.

Diversity is weakness. Diversity is what CPAC embraced. Sorry you prefer that over a UNITED America.

After Terri Land stepped down to run for the Michigan senate seat, Mitt Romney’s niece took her place on the republican national committee.

Meanwhile Dave Agema is still under pressure to step down from his committee seat for speaking out against gay marriage.

"CPAC is about finding conservative solutions to every challenge in America and not just saying 'no'," said Al Cardenas, chairman of the American Conservative Union, which runs the conference in Washington, D.C. "We're determined to win the majority of American support."

You find conservative solutions by using conservative principles. You do not simply decide that "well, this is conservative now," so you can win majority approval.

By doing this, you not only cede ground to the liberal opposition to our nation and its underlying principles and morals, you surrender it to them.

Sorry CPAC, this is the absolute wrong way to go about finding "conservative solutions."

What you are actually doing is perverting and profaning consetvative principles and pimping them out to wholly unconservative movements in the hopes that those people who have no intention of ever becoming conservative will somehow "like," you.

I have news for you, ultimately they will stick a knife in your gizzard and cast you aside as they make render you irrelevent.

But true conservative principles remain. They are based on truth and are what they are...and they work. We must need educate people, painting bold colors, without comrpomising those principles in the least, as to how those principles will improve people's life and that of their loved ones...their kids and grandkids. That's how you win this battle...not by inviting the anti-thesis into your "tent."

RINO convention.

Christie, head of the Republican Governors Assoc, recently signed into law in-state tuition for illegal aliens.

Al Cardenas, chairman of the American Conservative Union, was a speaker at an Zuckerberg coordinated October event to pressure House Republicans into Amnesty. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3083705/posts

And now this.

The fact that theu are saying we must include them BECAUSE they are gay.

Instead of them wanting to be included because they are CONSERVATIVE is a huge Red Flag to me.

Certainly. Keep your bedroom to yourself and don’t demand special rights.

>> Can we attract their votes without watering down our values?

That depends. What do “we” have to OFFER “them” in order to buy their vote?

Do they expect approval or endorsement of their sexual perversion? Sorry — no can do — and it’s not my choice, it’s a COMMANDMENT of ALMIGHTY GOD, Whom “me and my house” obey.

Now, if you’re saying “can’t we just avoid running off individuals who happen to be homo but keep that fact to themselves and otherwise mind their own business”? Yes, we probably COULD and SHOULD do that. In the same way that a homo who understands he’s engaging in behavior proscribed by GOD is welcome in the pew of a Christian church. (Just not the clergy, thank you very much.)

But then... that’s never how it is, is it? The homos don’t keep a low profile. Instead they band together into PRESSURE GROUPS with catchy names like “GOPProud”. What exactly do you think they’re proud of? Proud of conservatism? Hell no. Proud of their PERVERSION. And chomping at the bit to “mainstream” it and “celebrate” it. And get laws passed legitimizing it and criminalizing those who are against it.

Letting that camel’s nose under the tent is a BIG mistake. Mark my words.

One need only look to the 1963 Communist goals to see how the Right was infiltrated and gutted from within. The same way academia was, Media was.

Wet we have complete fools that want to help speed the process by encouraging more of that infiltration right here on this thread.

I welcome the collapse. I really do. So many ‘conservatives’ seem to want it so very badly through their demonstrated actions that there seems little point in anything but accepting the satisfaction I’ll get watching them suffer the consequence of their actions.

Never have I seen a herd so determined to cull itself.

It’s another attempt at PC outreach which will only serve to P.O. the base.

Typical move on part of the losers at the top, who calling the shots.
