Bad News for Cornyn: Early Voting Numbers Down in Texas (Vanity)

Bad news for John Cornyn: Early voting down in Texas. Low turnout always benefits the "crawl over glass" Conservatives and die-hards. The first day of voting in Harris County (Houston) Texas was 15,000; and that includes the all mail in ballots that had been received. Now, this total includes those who voted in the Democrat Primary as well as the GOP Primary. You can figure only 50% of the votes were GOP (This is Houston after all.) That's worse news for Cornyn. Only 7,000 GOP in person, and mail, votes in Harris County the first day???? Wow!

On the two opposite sides of the State (East and West) turnout was lower than 2010. Orange County on the extreme East side of Texas had 999 GOP Primary Voters the first TWO days of Early voting. And in the very populated Lubbock County, to the West, early voting numbers the first day was 899 (Dem and GOP TOTAL). Texas always has low voter turnout (48th in the nation.) But, this year it seems it is going to be extremely low if this trend continues. And not helping matters, they are predicting more freezing temps for parts of Texas (even in the southeast portion of the State) for next week; the last days of Early Voting which ends Feb. 28th.

This is good news for our team. Tea Partiers and die-hard Conservatives will get to the polls no matter what. And, in Texas' Primary in 2012, only 16.4 of the voters turned out for the RUN-OFF Election; in which Ted Cruz defeated Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst by 8 percentage points.

I like the way this is looking for our team

I agree with another FReeper who said, yesterday, that it is important to vote. A Primary vote counts as 10 votes when compared to the General Election.

My mom is following really BAD establishment republican voter guides. Luckily, I caught her before she sent in her ballot (allowed since she’s in her 70’s.) I told her that Cornyn is a sell-out and an enemy of conservatives.

No telling how many other otherwise conservative seniors are duped by these voter guides.

There’s probably a bunch out there that don’t trust early voting and will vote on the 4th.

Either way, looking good for a runoff. We can remove both republican leaders of the senate in one fell swoop in May!

Days and days of Early voting advantages the street operation of the Democrat machine, as TEXAS sits on “blue” dynamite about to blow. Immigrating socialists in, and 80% of TEXAS schools full of Common Core indoctrination, this shouldn’t take long.

Brace yourself.

Moderates are noted for their voter enthusiasm. Remember the enthusiastic crowds that moderates like Dole, McCain and Romney drew! < / sarcasm >

Here in Kaufman County, we don’t get paper ballots until March 4th - the day we will walk in to vote. I don’t care how long I stand in line at 7am...

I look for a lot of GOP support to come John Cornyn’s way if it looks like he could lose.
If he can be taken down any of the other go along get along scum can be.

There are 8 names on the Republican ballot for US Senator. All you have to do is spread those 7 names out equally and Cornyn will still come out ahead. I’ve NEVER heard a peep from one of his 7 opponents but I hear ads all day long for Cornyn. I think some of these names are on the ballot to cook the books, but I just don’t know who is legitimate.

No, that's not how it works. If each of those challengers takes votes from Cornyn, and he doesn't get 50%+1, he goes to a run-off with the number 2 vote getter.

Can't split the vote in the primary in Texas.

Hardly. The picture in Texas isn't quite so dire as you would like for it to be.

Stockman and Stovall are definitely legitimate contenders, but all seven have the sure chance of drawing votes, away from Cornyn. Holding him under 51% of the primary vote total means a run off election between him (Cornyn) and the one challenger who who attained the highest number of votes among all the challengers.

The people decide who is legitimate, by reading and listening and researching—becoming informed, and showing their support with their political action, their time and money, if they can.

I have been to many, many candidate forums, and have seen several of the folks running. There are three quality Constitutional Conservatives with Tea Party credentials and/or leanings, and at least two are Veterans. The problem is MONEY. Without money, it is nearly impossible to get your name out, especially in a state as big as Texas. Money is excruciatingly hard to raise against an incumbent, because incumbents “always” win. Once people see that things are looking like an incumbent might be replaced, after voting has started, it is often too late to jump in and turn the tide toward a good candidate that was out there all along.

I’m aware of the 50+%, but it would be nice to know who is most likely to beat him in a runoff.

Reid Reasor, Linda Vega, Ken Cope and Dwayne Stovall are all “legitimate”. Stockman has a whole helluva lot of baggage. He’s been my Congressman both times he served. But, I’m voting for Stovall because I believe he is the only one who can “possibly” get more votes than Stockman and face Cornyn in the run-off election. Cornyn and Company are holding a whole lot of dirt on Stockman because they figure he is the only one who has a chance of facing him in the run-off. Between the Primary March 4th and the run-off it will all come out and we will probably be stuck with Cornyn for another 6 years.

Although of course I voted for Abbott, SECEDE Kilgore was pretty tempting, whoever he is.

The election that Cruz won didn't see Cruz getting any real money, name recognition, or endorsements until the run-off with Dewhurst. When it was a 2-man race, Cruz got plenty of money and endorsements. No endorsements from the GOP-E, of course, but they hardly count.

Anyone is likely to beat him in a run-off. Whoever goes to run-off with him will get the name recognition, money and endorsements.

Stovall may be a surprise to many.
