The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation announced Friday it will continue to monitor rain and snowfall, but at this point, theres not enough water in the Central Valley Project to give water to farmers, the Associated Press reported.
After receiving 20 percent of their normal allowance last year, Central Valley farmers will receive zero percent after Fridays announcement...
I dont think weve ever had a mandatory rationing of water throughout the entire state, said Brown. Were just looking into the practicality and the legality of that.
The drought was also the focus of a weather science webcast Friday at the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, which will examine how scientists hope to better predict changing weather patterns to give more advance warning of expected extreme conditions.
Aquarium Operations Officer John Dumas said while forecasters cant look too far ahead with accuracy, current conditions are comparable to the 100-year statewide drought of 1877.[?]

Obama, Inc says FU California.
There are shortages because government is in charge of water policies. If there were a free market in water supplies, then people would use it wisely. People would not be attempting to grow crops in places they shouldn’t, and people would learn to conserve water in times of shortages because the price would increase. There would also be an incentive for businesses to find ways to supply more water.
Once again, government screws up everything it touches.
As always, follow the money.
What are the eat local foodies gonna do since their politicians are cutting off water to local farmers??? What a dilemma!
that’s right send the water to LA so people can fill their swimming pools. Ignore the farmers who grow our food let them suffer because they didn’t build that.
On second thought juste turn the state over to Mexico. That is a faster solution
I guess we’ll be eating cactus fruit, and maybe sea urchins.
The Central Valley votes Republican, so obviously they can be destroyed no problem.
He says FU to the Central Valley. The only section of Californication that didn’t vote for him.
They got a whole damn ocean just to the west. Time to figure out desalination technology and transport.
More than one way to skin a cat...
Sounds like Michelle Obama approved foods.
For those of you spouting off about farming should not be done in California as we do not get much rain, I have news for you. Damn near 2/3 of all the produce consumed in the USA is grown in California. Why? Because of the climate and the soil.
I live in the Coachella Valley, the low desert of Southern California. Along with the Imperial Valley which is just south of us, we are responsible for supplying the vast majority of peppers, table grapes, as well as several other produce items consumed in the USA. Near 100% of all dates consumed in the USA are grown here.
Without California grown produce, every American who eats fruits and vegetables will be paying a huge price at the grocery store thanks to the ineptitude of both California state and Federal officials.
Think about this. Until the end of last year, less than two months ago, not one official in this state was warning residents about the major water shortage. This was not an overnight event. No one came along and drained our reservoirs overnight. All of a sudden, major reservoirs were at 25% of capacity.
Gov. Brown was sitting on his skinny ass for the past two years and never said a thing. Were they all blind? Did no one in a responsible position take a look at the water level in our reservoirs? Now, they are running around like chickens with their heads cut off. What a pile of crap.
Water for smelt but not humans.
Definitely screwed up priorities.
It appears Kalifornia’s current Five Year Plan is being stymied by the weather.
Correction. Obama says FU central valley right wingers. If the valley farmers are smart they’d have the illegals rioting in the streets. Obama doesn’t listen to American but he sure will listen to the illegals.
Thanks for the links. We have family who moved to Iowa last summer (might reconsider after this winter!), and they plan on homeschooling.
Oops, disregard the Iowa post. I clicked on wrong spot.
Must be time to go to bed. ;-)
