Richland Medical Marijuana Patient Denied Concealed Pistol License [WA]

RICHLAND, WA-- A Richland medical marijuana patient recently applied for a Concealed Pistol License, but was denied by police.

Medical marijuana is legal under Washington state law, but the federal government won't make an exception for that when it comes to getting a Concealed Pistol License.

Richland police sent the medical marijuana patient a letter stating that federal law prohibits anyone who uses a controlled substance from "shipping, transporting, receiving or possessing firearms or ammunition."

And even if marijuana is legal here, it's still illegal at the federal level.

When anyone applies for a concealed weapons permit with Richland police, they have to follow these federal restrictions.

The woman who was denied the license wants to remain anonymous.

"It is hard enough to be judged as a patient, but then to have my Second Amendment rights messed with, that was shocking and incredibly upsetting," said the medical marijuana patient denied the license.

This patient says she uses the drug for chronic pain and uses products that don't make her high.

She says this license denial makes her feel like she's being treated like a criminal and not a legal patient and citizen.

She says she hopes a compromise between the state and federal laws can be reached.

With legalization means more govt involvement.

The pro-pot legalization advocates will regret their advocacy eventually.

No wonder this Admin is so eager to get everybody high. Those puffing pot on a regular basis are instantly disqualified for privately owning guns. Simple plan, huh?

Sad, but unsurprising, that drug warriors love their drug war more than the Second Amendment. The Brady Bunch is laughing.

Here is a simple solution/workaround to ALL firearms ownership restrictions, including those of medication, mental, or felony right loss...

Get a high powered air handgun and or big bore air rifle. These are totally legal for everyone in most circumstances. There are a few exceptions by State and City and none Federally. (Check the laws by State and City before rushing out to purchase. It is silly, but some anal retentive cities have illegalized the ownership of a simple Daisy BB-Gun).

Oh yeah...an irritated afterthought: many of you heavily opinionated people who call yourselves “Conservatives” on Free Republic don’t pass the “Scratch & Sniff” test. You are divided, thinking only “Within the Box”, with no compromise foreseeable. You are weak-minded people who enjoy beating a dead horse over and over, then put down your peers for doing the same thing. America is not divided...It is fragmented like broken glass on the ground...

They must really be torn - having to allow marijuana use even though it's illegal at Federal level 9so they ignore Federal law for possession) then having to submit to/enforce Federal law for the aspect that makes marijuana illegal when they can tie it to gun ownership.

Ignore Federal law or enforce federal law - what a conundrum......

It's working exactly as Holder and company planned - selective enforcement/ignoring of laws to suit the agendas.

When you use, you don’t carry , period. (Alcohol or pot) Screw the law, just use common sense ( if there is any left). As for smoking while carrying, you’ll lose your aim with only a one-handed grip!

Best comment so far,Lee.

Fact is form 4473 ask about pot use when you purchase a firearm.

How I your right mind can you think you are safe with a Medical MJ card in your pocket?

Average user, average drinker, average driver, average voter, average shooter, average student, ... do we have to dumb down everything in society based on the morons in it? What’s the rule of thumb for that going to be? If the Choomer in Chief can’t handle it then no one can do it!?! He’s already set the bar so low most of us can’t squeeze under it lying down. ;^)

I recently took myself off them and during the discontinuation withdrawel I was so damn edgy I had my wife take my guns and place them elsewere.

That was a wise thing to do considering the abrupt cessation but totally unnecessary if you taper the dose. For anyone else discontinuing therapy: At a minimum titrate down 50% per week; better to go two weeks between steps. Some people actually stretch out the taper to many months and get down to "counting grains" of the capsule contents.

Yeah, I don't know either but I would think that more intensive and scientific growing techniques would increase potency.

While I believe that the " medical marijuana" movement is a farce being used to legalize pot for recreational use there may be a small percentage of folks that could benefit from derivatives.

According to the article the lady is taking derivatives that do not contain the psychoactive substances.

Improved cultivation produces a better product but the basic genetics of the plant are no different than they were 10,000 years ago. As far as ‘one toke’ goes it is possible to control the diaphragm and limit inspiration.

Don’t partake but as I recall the purpose of smoking was to get high and to get the most out of your stash so pulling a clinton, i.e. smoking but not inhaling (yeah, right) would be wasting your investment.

It is possible to control inspiration to a surprisingly fine precision. It’s not a choice between zero inhalation and filling the lungs to the utmost capacity. One benefit of stronger marijuana is that less smoke needs to be inhaled in order to achieve a given level of intoxication.

“Because it’s a consciousness altering drug.”

So is alcohol and many prescription drugs, not to mention simple OTCs as well.
