Primary race against Graham begins in earnest

THE ISSUE: Sen. Lindsey Graham’s GOP challengers; OUR OPINION: Connor is first to hit airwaves in battle that is about forcing runoff

One candidate has spent much of the week claiming he is the choice of supporters of the tea party while another is the first to take to the airwaves in the campaign to oust U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham.

Only a week after Graham went on air expounding his conservative credentials, Orangeburg attorney Bill Connor answers in a cable ad airing on FoxNews Channel statewide with footage of Graham praising Hillary Clinton.

About his first ad, Connor said, “I was at the Tea Party debate when I first saw this footage of Graham praising and hugging Hillary. I thought it represented what’s most frustrating to South Carolina conservatives about Lindsey Graham — the inherent hypocrisy of calling himself a conservative when he campaigns, but acting like and voting like a moderate or liberal the rest of the time. My plan was always to get on TV first and to stay there.”

Connor is one of five candidates challenging the senior state senator in the 2014 GOP primary. He is joined by Easley businessman Richard Cash, Charleston public relations executive Nancy Mace, Columbia pastor Det Bowers and Spartanburg Republican state Sen. Lee Bright.

Bright has been the candidate trying to make the most headlines this week with claims that he has consolidated support among tea-party advocates in South Carolina.

In a gathering at the Statehouse on Thursday, Bright announced endorsements from organizers and Tea Party leadership from Aiken, Anderson, Greenville, Kershaw, Laurens, Seneca, Spartanburg and Sumter.

I hope he is not in the runoff.

I hope Sarah Palin does not listen to Juan Mc Cain on campaigning against Graham after all Graham was one of those who silenced her against her will.

Hypocrisy works both ways. If Graham is less of a conservative for hugging and praising Hillary, then Hillary must be more of a conservative for allowing him to do so.

I think Bright will be the other candidate in a runoff. I post any stories I can find against Graham. Connor put out an ad against Graham, so that’s good for him. But don’t know anything about him.

Bright is a conservative, and you could call him “our guy” since he’s in the lead against Graham.

As far as I know, all of Little Lindsey Graham’s primary challengers are conservatives. EACH and every one of them is “our guy” (or our gal in the case of Nancy Mace) as a vote for ANY OF THEM is a vote toward forcing Graham to a run-off.

I’ve made small contributions (I’m not rich) to both Bright and Mace. And Connor looks pretty good.

Assuming that Little Lindsey is forced to a run off, the challenger getting the most votes in the primary will be facing Graham in the run off and will be “our guy”.

And none of us should say a single negative thing about any of Graham’s challengers. Talk up and support the candidate of your choice but save the barbs for Little Lindsey.

Bill Connor is a real conservative with solid religious values, character and integrity.

He is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserves and unlike other politicians, he has put his life on the line in defense of our country.

LtCol Bill deployed to Afghanistan where he commanded a Regional Brigade Advisor Group. He personally mentored, trained, and faced combat alongside his Afghan National Army Brigade.

Here’s what needs to happen. All five challengers have to agree that Job One is sending career politician Graham packing. Then they have to meet together, just the five of them, in one place, check their egos at the door, and decide among each other who will be the standard bearer.

Once that has been decided, the four candidates who will not be running should, one-by-one, publicly announce their withdrawal from the race and add their unqualified support for the decided-upon candidate.

Unify, build momentum and WIN!
