Ancient trees are now emerging for the first time in decades along the Cornish and Welsh coasts after being underwater for thousands of years just off the British shores

While scientists have long known of the existence of these forests, geologists have been now able to use radioactive carbon dating on the Mount Bay specimens and discern that forests extended across the entire bay between 4000 to 6000 years ago. This is a time period when human communities in Britain were slowly abandoning hunter gathering lifestyles for farming...

Possibly caused when Lake Agassiz in North America, drained 8200 years ago. Pretty amazing that a lake in North America drains and land disappears in northern Europe and probably all over the world.

Sort of amazing these people 5,000 to 6,000 years ago managed to adapt to the climate change without government help...

Actually it is: hale and hearty an old person who is hale and hearty is still very healthy and strong At 77 he is hale and hearty, getting up at six every morning to walk three miles. See also: and, hale

I was simply parodying the articles misuse of the word.

Thanks shove_it. The Sinking Lands are described in The Mabinogeon; legendary king Bran the Blessed was so large (he was a giant) that no house could hold him nor ship bear him. When the Welsh crossed the Irish Sea to help their sister, the rest of the warriors crossed on rafts, and Bran waded with just his head above water. South, there were the Lost Lands of Lyonesse, off modern Cornwall, and in the north the Giant's Causeway. Either these legends are distortions of actual information passed down for thousands of years, or they are just amazing coincidences.

No, Rock, go to the Telegraph article and read all the comments of the Brits there. Hale is wrong to them, too.

No, take those snow tyres off come May Day, or you’re going down to the court centre and then gaol!

“These forests were growing four or five thousand years when climate was slightly warmer than today.”

Sigh.

In the North Sea, human artifacts and the bones of land animals are dredged. Tree trunks are submerged with roots still in the soil. Authorities think the land sank about 1500 bc.

Submerged forests off the coast of England and Wales are numerous. They are considered recent and post-glacial.

Submerged forests are found near Greenland, America’s east coast and elsewhere around the world. Several thousand years ago, the earth rose and fell.

There are a couple of big stumps hereabouts that are visible at extreme low tide, but the geologists say the land sank in an earthquake.

Mr Howie has labelled the stumps as “very fragile” and could be damaged by further bad weather and unaware onlookers.

Good grief, these stumps have been rotting under water for 6 thousand years and they are worried about damaging them? Skewed priorities? How about focusing on protecting living people from bad weather (and onlookers)! Or just leave weather be, it'll do what it wants all on it's own.
