Former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev said Sunday that the crisis in Ukraine stems from the government’s failure to act democratically. […]

“Ultimately this is the result of the failure of the government to act democratically” and to engage in dialogue and fight corruption, Gorbachev said during an address to a forum on government communications in the city of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.

He added that the root cause of the unrest in Ukraine was an “interruption of perestroika,” referring to his reform policies, and of the democratic process there. …

Gorby only became a supporter of democracy when it was forced on him.

Gorby violently put down a similar revolt in Lithuania in 1991.

I care as much about Gorbachev as I do about democracy. I’m more interested in individual liberty and freedom.

When has Gorby been interested in democracy? He never stopped being a commie did he?

He’d never given up the Soviet Union at all except for the fact that he had no choice. Now, the Liberals can fawn over him as if he’s a swell guy and it was only his love for humanity that ended communism and the Soviet Union. Balderdash.

Right you are.

Balderdash because the alternative to the credit going to Gorbachev was to credit a true man of the proletariat, Lech Walesa, the most hated woman in the leftist Europe, Margaret Thatcher, the American Satan, Ronald Reagan, and (gasp!) The Vicar of Christ himself, the Pope!

No, but Gorby has a pretty good feel for what the Kremlin is thinking right now, which means that they are pissed off.

That’s an interesting thought.

Yes, it’s one of those most self-evident of lies and distortions of the truth that the Libs made the communist brute into their hero and ignored the great people who worked to end oppression that was communism. Those types of lies were so shameless, brazen, and stupid that I believe a whole lot of Americans rejected Liberalism in the 1980’s because of those lies.

Sounds like an old man with pop-bottle glasses. Lenses so think you can’t see with them or without them.

Keep riding that horse, Gorby. Its good for another couple press interviews before you die.

Interesting comments on FR - I read the whole article and he actually makes sense.<p.A bit disturbing that so many missed the point (or don’t give a flip about the point) and opted to do a knee-jerk attack while ignoring the gist of the comments.

Gorby appears to be attributing this to Putin's interference in Ukraine's affairs, in which case he's 100 percent correct. That should pretty much seal Gorby's deal, right there.

“in the city of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates”

Gorby is talking about “democracy” in a place governed by a bunch of Sunni Muslim emirs who put themselves on their family thrones and who rule, repressively, over populations that in most Gulf States are majority Shia Muslim.

what a hoot; well I guess with their oil money they paid Gorby a lot for his presentation, and for the international pr lift it gives them

Not the EUSSR’s interference?

Note the two powers vying for the Ukraine here. Look familiar?
