He and his force should all resign. Forget the walk backs. This is getting ridiculous

So then the problem in college towns like Austin is that the kids just aren’t getting enough alcohol.

Now isn’t that a surprise —

She’s OK in my book!! I see a numbskull chief named Arturo and two of his donuts chomping troglodytes not knowing how to handle a simple situation. If you are going to send your anti-jaywalk crews to a very public intersection then they should behave themselves.... because they just might end up on video

Them versus a girl out for a run who likes to stay in shape

Ironic - a true statement which is heartening except for the fact that he was trying to use it to say that it’s OK for his cops to be lawbreaking yo-yos because some cops are doing much worse. Kind of like me saying it’s OK for me to rob and beat my neighbor because the next town over has someone who is also killing his victims and burning the house down with their kids inside.

The problem with Austin is that it’s infested with liberals

“Here’s the you tube of the screaming bimbette’s arrest:”

Yeah, that bimbette! Should have beaten her with a billy club! We have to teach people like this a lesson!

...

Seriously though, boot lickers like you make me sick.

“I think drug use is way up among college students because of the ridiculous drinking age of 21.”

Are you serious?

Lucky it wasn’t some old guy in NYC that got the crap beat out of him by cops for jaywalking.

For what I could tell, the video does not prove anything one way or the other, as the girl is already handcuffed when the video starts. The key is how the girl was initially approached by the cops. And that's not on the video.

So here's the bottom line. This is a case of a powerful armed official of the state vs. a citizen who is just going about her day, thinking that she is doing nothing wrong.

This is not a cop vs a burglar, or a cop vs a drunk driver.

So in our so-called free society, what should we have expected here? That a citizen going about her day immediately comply to authority, like a robot?

Or should we have expected the cop to show some restraint, even if the girl is a “cry-baby”?

The video first started out by claiming that the police threw her to the ground but that was a bold faced lie that was later admitted to. She played the limp damsel in distress act dropping to the ground herself.

28 people were stopped — of those only 7 were cited — and
only 1 arrested and that because she refused to cooperate with the police and give her name.

Had she stopped and cooperated she might have very well been one of those who were stopped and not cited.

It’s a college town — hopefully she learned a valuable
lesson.

Jay walking yep that’s a major crime right there the world is safer with her off the streets.

So do you only support freedom for people you admire and who pass your non bimbo test?

They say it’s about safety but it’s really about them being able to stop anyone they want at anytime.

It’s a police state, get used to it.

I’ll stand with the 27 who actually behaved themselves and acted civilly.

You want the foul mouthed screaming banshee who was arrested— she’s all yours.

Bingo! I don't care if the jogger refused to give her name when stopped. She went instantly from her daily routine to a crisis situation. Anyone would be be confused, some more than others.

Part of the JOB of cops is to understand that a jogging jaywalker is not a fleeing murder suspect. You don't treat a jaywalker the same as a murder suspect. Unless you're in a police state.

As a side note, I was reading the autobiography of a recently-retired New England cop. He was a tough character when necessary, but he had the reputation of being an "officer friendly" to the citizens at large. The other officers constantly criticized him for his friendly attitude. That's today's America.

We need more police walking the streets of America detaining jay-walkers!

Maybe Austin police can learn from the NYPD who know how to teach a lesson:

Jaywalking Crackdown In New York Leads To Brutal Arrest Of 84-Year-Old Man

Hopefully, our citizens will get the message that jay-walking will not be tolerated! Yes. You will be detained. Yes, you must show your identification. Yes, while on your daily walk or jog through the neighborhood, you will be made to submit! SUBMIT!

I'm sure she learned a valuable lesson. And most of those who are following this story have also learned that same lesson. But it's not the lesson you think it is.

Don’t kid yourself.

This was not her finest hour.

And that you tube video of her pouting and screaming is clearly not a resume enhancer.

Trying to force the actual facts into the discussion is not bootlicking.

You watch the video. The video provided does not show any running up from behind.

It begins with her sitting handcuffed on the sidewalk. The used of headphones or earbuds has never prevented me from hearing outside audio. She very well could have been feigning “couldn’t hear” because she knew she was in trouble.

While the arm-pulling away would not necessarily be grounds, failure to show or give identification could.

All it takes is for her to be more civil.

Evidently you get to pick and choose your crimes. I posted this yesterday from a commenter who lives there. See again:

In this area there are over 100K students and traffic problems are constant. Pedestrians (mostly students) show no regard for any laws and navigating around is a royal pain and makes driving in that area a complete nightmare. There are complaints made and without them our police have to deal with them. No regard for laws, no respect for drivers and all seem to be completely above the law. Not 24 hours after this recording a student was killed by a bus while jaywalking in the early hours of morning. They literally do not care where they go and how they do it and it’s a chronic problem.
