If the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals' recent ruling striking down restrictions on concealed-carry gun permits is allowed to stand, California will become a more dangerous place.

It will be a more dangerous place for criminals. That includes the politicians that have ruined that state.
And herein is the reason we do not subscribe to the San Jose Murkey News.
LOL! How many papers are not subscribed to because of their “fair and balanced” reporting? Used to be the old saying was “We don’t make the news, we just report it.” Long ago and far, far away.
Criminals have carried and will continue to carry without approvals, permits and training for years and they’re worried that law abiding citizens might carry too?
Makes no sense. requiring background checks and safety courses are common infringements -- but that's not enough to satisfy the gunphobes?
Guess they didn’t/don’t know that it’s against the law. How stupid do they have to be to not understand that bad guys don’t give two dumps about the laws. ;>}
EXACTLY!California will become a SAFER place for law-abiding citizens;not so for PERPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For a Marxist Dictatorship to succeed there must be NO CHANCE of an armed uprising against it. Its as simple as that. IMHO Madame Guillotine WILL have her say.
In the 70’s I seem to recall many men walking with six shooters on their hips.
Ala Marty Robbins.....
Seemed pretty safe to me and I knew others carried under their clothing.
Didn’t strike me as odd at all and doesn’t concern me in the slightest.
It is thise people, with a criminal intent, who bother me.
That and loud rap music but, Eyez digress.....
-—interesting group of comments after the article-—mostly shredding it-—
More dangerous for whom? Your beloved criminal class? Same ol’ crap, tell the big lie often enough and it becomes perceived as truth. What is a Mercury News, anyway, a Just-Us Department publication?
Correct, the marxists in charge are fearful of the peons and surfs. I would be if I were them too.
Once a person has passed a background check to purchase a firearm, the next step should be to allow the Gun Store to issue a CWP. Why add another level of bureaucracy by then requiring someone to go to a Sheriff or Police Chief?
Yep. The Merc embarrasses itself by repeating the same old tired Trashcan claim: “He shudda just walk away!”
This one isn’t final. Given it’s the 9th, I fully expect an en banc hearing which may overrule the panel. Stay tuned.
The MSM will NEVER look critically at the stats between conceal carry states and those that ban it. It’s proven to reduce violent crime.
There is no cure for the kind of stupidity suffered by the editors at the Mercury News.
The Murky Nooz has supported every loonie piece of legislation this state’s leftist leninist brigades have ever proposed and passed.
They are far, far more in danger of:
1) being killed by a drunk driving illegal Mexican,
2) robbed by an illegal Mexican,
3) raped by an illegal Mexican,
4) have their identity stolen by an illegal Mexican,
5) have to wait at the emergency room for treatment because of an illegal Mexican,
6) their child’s education suffers because their teachers have to pander to illegal Mexicans’ children in their own language,
7) getting some heretofore extinct disease because of an illegal Mexican,
8) having their vote diluted because of an illegally voting illegal Mexican,
9) having to pay more taxes because of illegal Mexicans illegally and legally receiving entitlements.....
Need I go on?
Yeah right. Sean Penn, notorious wife beater and prone to assault photographers, has a concealed weapons permit.
We aren't being "allowed" to do anything. There's no "allow" in this.
I almost hope they do, because as we speak literally millions seeking security and protection which are now only afforded to celebrities, the wealthy and politicians, are either in the process or planning on applying.
In CA government has gotten away unconstitutional civil rights violations and oppression for many years now while most other states recognize Americans right to protect themselves. Just as the wealthy well connected are now afforded.
I think they’re going to lose here this time even if this goes to SCOTUS. If not, they’re going to create an even greater tsunami of dissent and endless legal actions.
Wish I subscribed, so I could cancel...
the state of Flor took the lea in liberalizing it it in liberalizing it’s gun laws and at that time the left screamed bloody murder, saying that it would transform the the streets of florida into Boot Hill or the OK Corral.
Nothing like that of the sort ever happened.
We are now seeing history repeat itself.
The leftist have backed themselves into a corner...
Anyone interested here, I suggest they take 3 minutes and read what the oppressors have done to themselves....
Want fewer guns on California streets? Open carry may be the answer.
personally i am waiting for this ruling to impact illinois where i live. our ccw laws are even stricter than californias.
apologies for typos and all lower case, shattered my right elbow in a fall 2 days ago, typing is a bitch now and takes forever.
I know that is what happened here in Kansas when they passed CCW. That is why we are called a red state.
Leftist newspaper editors use this same lie every time concealed carry is mentioned. The opposite has happened in every state, but they still tell the same lie. They have no shame, being RATS.
Frickin’ OUCH! Did you slip on some glow-bull warming?
Uh, otherwise law abiding citizens have been carrying without permits for years. They just hope they won't get caught. As you say, criminals do carry and continue to do so without worrying too much. From my own experience in San Francisco over the past few decades I've seen numerous handguns carried by regular decent citizens without permits; only a few politically connected persons (like Dianne Feinstein) had permits.
It's at the point where you see laws regularly ignored on the left (as in protections for illegal aliens etc.) that some laws are becoming meaningless and beg to be ignored in order to get by in life.
As if those in a corrupt one-party state aren’t already in grave danger. Guess the Sacramento mafia doesn’t like competition.
Want fewer guns on California streets? Open carry may be the answer.
My fault here, as the LA Times won’t allow anyone to read this except those who pay or register. Don’t do that.
However, the title at the top of this editorial should give a hint as to how the leftist oppressors have legally backed themselves into a corner here.

The “hole” article was visible to me when I went to the link. You could, or I could, post the “hole” article here if it’s that pertinent. But basically the same old canard of blood filling the LA river if more LAW ABIDING citizens are “allowed” to CCW. Same old song and dance. Rodeo Drive shoot outs over parking places blah, blah, blah.
i sure did, can i sue algore?
been one of the worst winters on record here. so much snow i havent seen my lawn since just after christmas.
We’ve been reading and hearing about it. On the west side (not ALL the way west, one state shy of Cali but within 10 miles of the Ag station) we’re stuck on very limited moisture and not really all that cold this winter. In fact, the frickin’ lawn is starting to green up already and the 2 year old aspens we planted when we moved in are starting to bud. WTH? The forecasters are saying maybe some moisture middle and end of next week. If the politicos back east REALLY cared, they’d truck some of the excess snow out our way for free. LOL! Hope your elbow heals quickly.
Actually, it’s about they can’t have it both ways.
The only people who fear “shall issue” concealed carry permits are politicians, executive branch government agents, and criminals who could care less about your rule of law. Unfortunately, all three groups can be distilled down into just one group, owing to the fact that all three groups share a common goal, and agree on the tactics to achieve that goal.
