Chester W. Nimitz Papers
US Naval War College ^ | 24 Feb '14 | Adm. Chester Nimitz

Posted on 02/24/2014 9:17:57 AM PST by tomkat

The Command Summary of FADM Nimitz was compiled by the War Plans Section of the Pacific Command Headquarters in Hawaii during World War II. It contains daily estimates of the situation, command decisions, and running summaries of communications from December 7, 1941 to August 31, 1945. Naval War College Historian Douglas Smith avers that it is "the most authoritative source on the Pacific War available anywhere".

Took me all of 15 seconds to find a link to this material, and another 3 minutes to post the thread.

Imho, the original poster's submission being yanked for lack of a link was completely unnecessary.

$10 says that a link would have been provided by someone before the thread had accumulated 20 replies.

Try the decaf.

I didn’t see the original thread

but Wow tomcat
this looks like an incredible site
and very interesting reading

WE, everyday people, would do well to understand what our grandfathers etc went through so we have what we have today
and that some special people like Nimitz found ways

thanks

Gah. I just posted a few items to that last thread I thought might be of interest to freepers who follow these things...now they are tombstoned.

Geez. I agree. Anyway, thanks for posting it again.

The words posted in that body of the thread did not match that link.

We looked online for the words posted and discovered the source changed the wording so we restored the thread.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3126422/posts

BTW the wording at one source was changed to “has released” instead of “will” release.

Hard to keep up with news sources that change stories in midstream.

Look before you leap.

I'd have credited this to whoever posted the first thread, but hadn't really taken note of their handle.
After composing a short reply, was met with the 'pulled' page notice.

Anyway, to whoever it was, thanks for the heads-up and here it is.

It does look like a great bunch of reading, and I'm looking forward to d/l the pdfs.

RK: my pleasure .. it's with a k, has nothing whatsoever to do with cats, but partially/tangentially to do with admiration for the 'old' F-14

RL: don't you just HATE gettin' something typed up and then BANG no more thread .. grrrrrrrr

Bearded clerics in dirty robes, wearing pointy hats, perusing ancient dusty tomes of mystery by dim candlelight. Mumbling incantations, making complicated gestures of arcane runes in the air causing naughty posts to self immolate in shame.

“$10 says that a link would have been provided by someone before the thread had accumulated 20 replies.”

There are only 15 replies at this time, so you can either post the link on the thread or send the $10 to FreeRepublic, LLC, PO BOX 9771, FRESNO, CA 93794

Decaf? If it’s 80 proof...
