Harold Ramis, Chicago actor, writer and director, dead at 69
Chicago Tribune ^ | 2/24/14

Posted on 02/24/2014 9:58:28 AM PST by SoFloFreeper

Harold Ramis was one of Hollywood’s most successful comedy filmmakers when he moved his family from Los Angeles back to the Chicago area in 1996. His career was still thriving, with "Groundhog Day" acquiring almost instant classic status upon its 1993 release and 1984's "Ghostbusters" ranking among the highest-grossing comedies of all time, but the writer-director wanted to return to the city where he’d launched his career as a Second City performer.

"There's a pride in what I do that other people share because I'm local, which in L.A. is meaningless; no one's local," Ramis said upon the launch of the first movie he directed after his move, the 1999 mobster-in-therapy comedy "Analyze This," another hit. "It's a good thing. I feel like I represent the city in a certain way."

Really good director.

Caddyshack! Simply genius. One of the funniest movies ever... and still wears well even today. It’s also one of those movies you can watch over and over again without it getting old.

A wonderful contributor to American Comedy. Humble, confident and funny.

Head writer for SCTV and started with National Lampoon.

This was funny stuff, satire, drawing on current events, pop culture and history. To appreciate it took some knowledge of events.

It was fall out of the chair funny, and is still my bar for anyone’s sense of humor.

He was one of the best comedy screenwriters of all time. Great, funny, original ideas. Not the remake garbage that comes out of Hollywood these days. He will be missed. They should posthumously present him with a lifetime achievement Oscar.

ABC News reported he died from “complications of auto-immune inflation disease.

I guess it is not politically correct to use a specific acronym that might implies Harold was a homosexual?

Harold was a homosexual?.

Ramis, a longtime North Shore resident, was surrounded by family when he died at 12:53 a.m. from complications of autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, a rare disease that involves swelling of the blood vessels, his wife Erica Mann Ramis said.

Not a homosexual(Rolls eyes)

He was a funny guy. It sure seems like he was the dusty motorcycle rider in the movie 1941, who delivers the message from Barstow from madman Maddox. Belushi (Wild Bill Kelso) steals his bike later in the movie. He goes into the theater to watch Dumbo and shakes dust off looking for his wallet to buy a ticket.

The man was married twice to women and has a bunch of children. It has nothing to do with politcal correctness when someone posts a nasty rumor on a memorial thread because they are too lazy to google "harold ramis" and read about his life and/or his disease, which was disclosed by his WIFE.

There is a wide range of diseases that are classified as autoimmune disorders. His was vasculitis, and inflammation of the blood vessels having nothing whatsoever to do with any STDs. Other common autoimmune diseases most Americans have in their families are thyroid trouble, lupus, arthritis, and many others.

And what stoppped ABC from adding a single sentence or phrase to say his demise had nothing to do with the homosexual lifestyle?

Correct acronym or not, i’d expect the journo-listas to make it clear. We are dealing with low-info folks; and...

Because, not there is anything WRONG with that!

ASIDE:

Please re-read what I posted and use some critical assessment instead of “knee-jerk” crticism.

HINT: I was posting regarding the use of certain terms and not at all concerning the deceased; the “hoops” the media types are required to “jump through” are assumptively ridiculous.

Not "inflation," but INFLAMMATION! His effected his blood vessels, but other examples of auto-immune inflamation diseases include rheumatoid arthritis and crohns disease. None of these are something about which to joke.

He and two others wrote the screenplay.

I will never watch that movie again because of John Landis.

He has the blood of three people on his hands and has never owned up to what he had done. He is a cretin.
