Jeb Bush understands that as the son and brother of former presidents, his family name may hurt him as much as help him if he decides to run for the White House in 2016.
And the former two-term Florida governor reiterated that he'll make his decision on whether to launch a campaign for the Republican presidential nomination by the end of this year.
Bush, the featured guest Monday at the Long Island Association's biannual luncheon, a popular stop for former presidents and White House hopefuls, was asked about the recent comments from his mother. Former first lady Barbara Bush told CSPAN that "there's no question in my mind that Jeb is the best-qualified person to run for president, but I hope he won't," adding that "there are other families," who deserve a chance.

Must be Hillary’s turn at the office.
He could do what John Dingell’s daddy did and change his name to fit a catchy slogan.
The Bush family legacy is the problem.
Couldn’t have anything to do with your die-hard push for Amnesty could it? Nah.
Is Las Vegas taking action on Jeb changing his last name to Cruz for the upcoming election?
the media made it an “issue”
Drudge Report editor Joe Curl just endorsed Jebbie on his Twitter feed today:
Joseph Curl @josephcurl 8h
The Republican Party hasn’t won a presidential election without a Bush or Nixon on the ticket since 1928. So, please, @JebBush, run in 2016!
Hillary is smarter and a street fighter. It would be an absolute slaughter.
I am thinking it would be more accurate to say that his family name would hurt him as well as hurt him if he decides to run.
Maybe he could still place nineth in the primaries.
If only nine Republicans run.
I'll never vote for him. If the 'pubs are going to choose someone who won't save the US, I'd just as soon the nation go down with hillary in charge.
I can only interpret that as sarcasm. If he’s serious, he’s s sick individual.
Not sarcastic. He’s serious. That’s the problem. Joe Curl is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. He despises Tea Party and Social Conservatives.
The Kennedy name is/was an issue, too-but some people never learn...
I have come to believe if the words “political” and “dynasty” apply to a candidate, they should never be elected-it is like being inbred...
He should change his last name to Rove.
We know who Jeb is. This Bush in Texas running for dog catcher? Who is he? I think we can find a Cruz relative that is going to be a problem. The sins of the father.....blah blah blah.
Go away Bushes. All of you.
It is for me.
I would vote for Hitler or Satan
before I would vote for someone
whose name is Bush or Cheney.
The Bush name wasn’t an issue until he came out for amnesty.
I can remember thinking at one time he’d make a fine president and wishing that he had run rather than GW. Since then, though, there has been some water under the bridge. Terri Schiavo is one; his attacks on Governor Brewer of Arizona is another; his various remarks about conservatives and his support for amnesty proving that none of this was a fluke.
That picture was taken before President Bush started his strange fettish for crazy socks.
It’s from 10/29/13.
You did a credible job as my Governor and I voted for ya.
Voted for your brother twice too, and your old man.
Neither you, your brother nor your dad are conservatives so I am disappointed I EVER supported any of you.
Please just go the hell away.
I believe Jeb is for common core edu. Quite a departure from Charter School. This guy is a joke.
Save your Confederate Money....
Jeb acuses oponents of common core to basically be special interest political pimps of children. This would be hillarious if it were not so arrogant, eggregious and scumbagged of a statement you would find in Chicago.
Opponents of Jeb want to pimp and he is the savior he says http://michellemalkin.com/2013/09/20/jeb-bushs-latest-common-core-snit-fit/
Okay, Jeb, so you want to blame your last name instead of your progressive pro-illegal politics?
I’ll never vote for him. If the ‘pubs are going to choose someone who won’t save the US, I’d just as soon the nation go down with hillary in charge.
I think you overrate his job as governor. Didn’t he make Charlie Crist his handpicked successor?
Jeb, sorry but I decided to pull up the Bushes. Cruz - Palin 2016.
Are you for George P. for land commissioner? Apparently, he will get 70 percent on March 4.
Jeb should just go ahead and change to a democrat. Be open about it.
I voted for George P’s opponent. I don’t know anyone that was voting for him except maybe his friends.

If I lived in Texas I’d vote for the other land commissioner person. No more Bushes, Clinton or Kennedys.
Drudge Report editor Joe Curl (AKA Joe Hurl)... "The Republican Party hasnt won a presidential election without a Bush or Nixon on the ticket since 1928."LOL!
Gee, let's have another major statist to drag us into oblivion!
Nixon gave us Carter!
Nixon lost to JFK after being VP under two pretty successful Eisenhower terms. Nixon won presidency only after a disastrous Johnson term which caused him to bow out, giving a gift to Nixon running against a new Rat. Then Nixon resigned in disgrace - putting Ford into the CiC position. Note: Goldwater won the GOP primary in '64 - why didn't Nixon try to clinch the win?
GHWB gave us the Clinton clan!
Same for GHWB - 2 terms as VP under the most successful admin in 100 years. GHWB had a problem being reelected.
GWB gave us ObaMao!
GWB was elected by about 500 votes in FL. He didn't shine in his reelection. He had one of the lowest ratings leaving office (not totally deserved, but he was every bit the statist I thought he would be).
So now the greatest nation on earth needs another squishy statist...? BARF
Except for Bush, Rubio, Christie, and Santorum, that looks about right...
Indeed.. another self hating GOPe
They want to get the right wing vote riding the Bush name but hate it at the same time as leftists.
Maybe Jeb thinks he also is not black enough.
This guy is a weak link.
