Harvard writer: Free speech threatens liberalism and must be destroyed
Daily Caller ^ | 2/23/14 | Robby Soave

If this Harvard University student got her way, free speech on campus would be abolished and professors with dissenting views fired, because radical leftism is the only permissible political philosophy and the First Amendment is a barrier preventing modern colleges from fulfilling their proper role as indoctrination camps.

Her name is Sandra Korn. She is a senior at Harvard and columnist for the Harvard Crimson.

In a recent column, Korn unambiguously insisted that the university should stop guaranteeing professors and students the right to hold controversial views and pursue research that challenges liberalism.

So libs are for diversity, except when they aren’t.

Nothing new here.

Here’s a problem I have with reading these kind of screeds. I go to them eagerly, interested to find out how these people can justify themselves. Then it happens: my eyes begin to glaze over at the first sentence or sometimes the second paragraph if the author has any sense of storytelling.

I couldn’t get through this stupid piece of turgid crap. As always, it will be common sense freepers who will tell me what this bitch is on about.

The whole damn world could be a “Socialst communist Paradise” save an island in the south pacific where the natives voluntarily trade coconuts in exchange for goods and services. But the leaders of the world would insist on bombing that island to oblivion as if it were the root of all the inherent problems their world socialist commie government ever had...

She sounds wonderfully fascist, a natural product of illiberal education.

“So libs are for diversity..”

Yes, but only when that “diversity” marches in locks step. See?

They’re gonna set up a committee for acceptable beliefs and viewpoints. Meanwhile, Ms. Morn will be accepting a position within the FCC after graduation.

Her views are remarkably similar to a much, much younger Hillary Clinton.

As a staff lawyer working on the Watergate investigation [prosecution] panel, she vehemently argued that the potential defendants should not be afforded their Constitutional rights with respect to testimony, etc.

She was actually fired from that job because she was too much of an unethical radical, IIRC.

The really amusing thing about this is that little Miss Korn would be one of the first against the wall if she ever gets her wish. Pseudo-intellectuals don't fare very well once the real knuckle draggers take over as they inevitably do on the slippery slope to totalitarianism.

Useless eater, and waster of oxygen.

People like this will have a very hard time, should a severe economic collapse occur.

I will laugh at them.

She says nothing of importance, and she does it badly.

I would rather listen to my 6 year old grandson explain how he thinks internet routing works. And he'd be more correct.

No problem. As always, I couldn’t get through this screed either. How did she think we got to the 21st century? I mean, the turkey baster mustn’t have entered humanity until at least the 17th century - although I’m no expert on kitchen utensils.

Harvard’s Rebel Without a Clue

It reads like parody, but it’s not. Appearing the other day in the Harvard Crimson, the article was headlined “The Doctrine of Academic Freedom: Let’s give up on academic freedom in favor of justice.” Its author, a Harvard undergraduate named Sandra Y.L. Korn, argued that the concept of academic freedom should be replaced by one of academic justice. “When an academic community observes research promoting or justifying oppression,” she proposed, “it should ensure that this research does not continue.” To a large extent, of course, the American academy is already under the thumb of the left-wing Thought Police; Ms. Korn only wants to complete the job. She’d like to see an academy in which, she explains, somebody like Harvard government professor Harvey Mansfield – a conservative who would never be hired nowadays, but whose job is secure thanks to tenure – would be given the boot, the better to purify the sweet air of Harvard Yard.

Who is Sandra Y.L. Korn? The contributor’s note identifies her as a member of the class of 2014, a Crimson editorial writer and columnist, and “a joint history of science and studies of women, gender and sexuality concentrator in Eliot House.” “Concentrator” is apparently Harvardese for “major.” Ms. Korn’s college education consists, then, of courses in Women’s Studies and in “History of Science,” which, according to Harvard’s website, “offers students the possibility of studying the history and social relations of science” but “does not require students to take science courses.” (Which, of course, is ridiculous: how can you begin to understand what science is without actually studying a science?) Ms. Korn, I also discovered, is working on a thesis about “how biologists have tried over and over again to explain gender difference by invoking ‘science.’” In other words, she’s learned about science – without really learning any science – in order to discredit “science,” a word she puts in scare quotes. (Her project is, note well, entirely consistent with Women’s Studies dogma, which teaches that science is “masculinist.”)
