(Effin') Kerry to Uganda: Repeal anti-gay law or else
The Hill ^ | 2/24/14 | Julian Pecquet

Posted on 02/24/2014 4:02:10 PM PST by Libloather

Secretary of State John Kerry demanded Monday that Uganda “repeal” its new anti-gay law and warned that the State Department has begun a “review” of U.S. assistance to the impoverished East African nation.

“This is a tragic day for Uganda and for all who care about the cause of human rights,” Kerry said in a statement. “Ultimately, the only answer is repeal of this law.”

President Yoweri Museveni signed into law on Monday legislation enacting tough prison sentences for homosexual acts, which were already illegal in Uganda. Kerry threatened to cut the more than $400 million the country receives in annual U.S. economic and military aid as a result.

“As President Obama stated, this legislation is not just morally wrong, it complicates a valued relationship,” Kerry said. “Now that this law has been enacted, we are beginning an internal review of our relationship with the Government of Uganda to ensure that all dimensions of our engagement, including assistance programs, uphold our anti-discrimination policies and principles and reflect our values.”

Lawmakers will also examine whether to respond in upcoming discussions about the fiscal 2015 spending bill, a Senate staffer told The Hill. Similar countries have passed anti-gay legislation with few if any repercussions — Museveni signed the bill into law just six weeks after U.S. aid recipient Nigeria enacted similar legislation — sparking calls for a review of U.S. aid.

“While I recognize and value Uganda’s leadership in promoting stability in the region, the United States must not stand by as democratic values and humanitarian principles are increasingly disregarded by Uganda’s political leadership,” the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations panel on Africa, Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.), said in a statement Monday.

“America’s rhetoric must now be met with action,” he said. “For there to be no diplomatic or developmental consequence for the enactment of these laws would be to set a dangerous precedent for America’s foreign policy.”

What is this emphasis on homosexuals with the Democrats and RINOs? They are maybe 3% of the population, yet everything about them seems to be the highest priority for this government and this culture. Can someone explain that to me? Am I missing something?

All the crap that goes on in Uganda and Africa and THIS is what these leftist kooks are upset about!

This is all liberals do is waste our time on stuff like pretending the Earth is about to burn to a cinder, the latest gay law in Uganda.

People like Kerry are bizarros, he should be in prison for treason anyway, not Sec of State.

I've seen Scripture which says that, when God turns His face away from a people, He gives them over to rampant homosexuality. I think that's what's happening here. It's all queer, all the time.

John Kerry is part of the generation that spent many hours of college time watching the original Star Wars on TV. The primary directive in exploring alien cultures was to have no impact on them. The crew always got into trouble when they violated the primary directive.

Did John Kerry learn nothing in college?

I hope Uganda stands tall against the forces of cultural deviancy, aka America-2014.

Sad when you find your own country becoming an evil influence on the world. America used to promote freedom and democracy. Now under Obama, it just promotes deviancy and homosex.

What a sick and depraved country America has become.

What is this emphasis on homosexuals with the Democrats and RINOs? They are maybe 3% of the population, yet everything about them seems to be the highest priority for this government and this culture. Can someone explain that to me?

Three reasons come to mind.

1) Homosexuals may comprise 3% of the population, but their %age among those in the arts and entertainment industry is much higher. This is important since, as Siegel points out in his recent book, progressivism sees itself as the political arm of the avant-garde, that "progress" in the arts and aesthetics is just as necessary as "progress" in politics and ethics.

2) The homosexual lobby in particular, and homosexual activists in general, provide funding to the Democratic Party in larger measure than their numbers, and money is the mother's milk of politics.

3) Laypersons among Democrats have bought into the myth, promoted and perpetuated by the party, that they were the vanguard of anti-racism and anti-sexism. That they were not is of no account: Republicans are "known" to be racist and sexist, and Democrats are "known" to oppose racism and sexism in all its forms. They also have bought into the myth that the "next civil rights movement" is the acceptance of homosexuality in all its forms and in all its demands, and since there is a romance-adventure scent to the myth of the Democrats-and-the-race-civil-rights movement of the 1940s-60s, laypersons want to feel themselves as latter-day civil-rights crusaders against the Heterosexual Heresy.

There are other reasons, of course, more subtle and theological, but these are the most obvious, open ones.

“Kerry to Uganda: Repeal anti-gay law — or else”

Or else what? “Sanctions” are sort of an amorphous response to these repeated nose-thumbings and elevated middle digits now being directed at US envoys all over the world.

Anti-gay laws are probably no more of a perversion of the justice system anywhere than a draconian measure that destroys a broad sector of the economy without providing a viable alternative.

Shari’a law is pretty explicit about this sort of thing.
