Skip to comments.(Effin') Kerry to Uganda: Repeal anti-gay law — or else

Secretary of State John Kerry demanded Monday that Uganda repeal its new anti-gay law and warned that the State Department has begun a review of U.S. assistance to the impoverished East African nation.
This is a tragic day for Uganda and for all who care about the cause of human rights, Kerry said in a statement. Ultimately, the only answer is repeal of this law.
President Yoweri Museveni signed into law on Monday legislation enacting tough prison sentences for homosexual acts, which were already illegal in Uganda. Kerry threatened to cut the more than $400 million the country receives in annual U.S. economic and military aid as a result.
As President Obama stated, this legislation is not just morally wrong, it complicates a valued relationship, Kerry said. Now that this law has been enacted, we are beginning an internal review of our relationship with the Government of Uganda to ensure that all dimensions of our engagement, including assistance programs, uphold our anti-discrimination policies and principles and reflect our values.
Lawmakers will also examine whether to respond in upcoming discussions about the fiscal 2015 spending bill, a Senate staffer told The Hill. Similar countries have passed anti-gay legislation with few if any repercussions Museveni signed the bill into law just six weeks after U.S. aid recipient Nigeria enacted similar legislation sparking calls for a review of U.S. aid.
While I recognize and value Ugandas leadership in promoting stability in the region, the United States must not stand by as democratic values and humanitarian principles are increasingly disregarded by Ugandas political leadership, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations panel on Africa, Sen. Chris Coons (D-Del.), said in a statement Monday.
Americas rhetoric must now be met with action, he said. For there to be no diplomatic or developmental consequence for the enactment of these laws would be to set a dangerous precedent for Americas foreign policy.
Could've used him during the Husseincare fight.
How much more tax dollars are we giving to other nations? I didn’t know we were giving Uganda $400 fricking million dollars.
Is that the actual title?
Gee will Kerry make the same threat to Saudi Arabia or Iran where homosexuality is punishable by death?
Uganda to Kerry... What about Saudia Arabia???
That’s a lot of mud huts.
What is this emphasis on homosexuals with the Democrats and RINOs? They are maybe 3% of the population, yet everything about them seems to be the highest priority for this government and this culture. Can someone explain that to me? Am I missing something?

yes. At least Uganda doesn’t kill them. What infuriates me is the inconsistency of the Obama policies in general. They target groups and countries while ignoring others without any reasoning
A lot of Swiss bank accounts, more likely.
All the crap that goes on in Uganda and Africa and THIS is what these leftist kooks are upset about!
This is all liberals do is waste our time on stuff like pretending the Earth is about to burn to a cinder, the latest gay law in Uganda.
People like Kerry are bizarros, he should be in prison for treason anyway, not Sec of State.
I think all of the lawmakers, enforcers, chain of command, congressional aides, lobbyists, decorators, florists, and bakers in the Beltway are homosexual.
Another fine example of how there is too much government spending. Uganda? Fags? How many people at State are working on this crap. Make America stronger. Cut the State Dept. budget by 60% and focus on real problems.
What a filthy, meddling piece of garbage. Kerry better be worried about the review he’s going to get from the ultimate Judge.
I've seen Scripture which says that, when God turns His face away from a people, He gives them over to rampant homosexuality. I think that's what's happening here. It's all queer, all the time.
So in other words according to Traitor Kerry: Sodomy is more important than starving people.
now that Ukraine is “free” from Russian interference, expect the same to occur there.
Sodomite rights enshrined into law or... we cut aid and leave you to Russia.
That’s alright; China will probably be more than happy to step in and replace us in exchange for some subsurface development rights.
Well...all I can figure out is that Dems, socialists, etc want to screw America....and this is their way....very unhealthy and dirty....like they are.
