Pentagon plans to shrink US Army to pre-WWII level
AFP ^ | February 2t, 2014 | Dan De Luce

Posted on 02/24/2014 7:29:21 PM PST by MeshugeMikey

The Pentagon plans to scale back the US Army by more than an eighth to its lowest level since before World War II, signaling a shift after more than a decade of ground wars.

Saying it was time to "reset" for a new era, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel recommended shrinking American forces from 520,000 active duty troops to between 440,000 and 450,000.

I have never understood (actually I do) why writers excuse the perp of so many actions by stating things like “the Pentagon is doing it,” “the IRS is doing such and such,” and so forth.

Truth be told, all the ugly actions coming out of the U.S. today are because of one person - you know who the dirt bag is.

They think they are doing us a favor by making it impossible for us to contemplate a foreign war. We will be too weak to win, so we will not fight. They think they are saving lives and money.

“We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

now we know why the military is being cut dratically. NSA IRS DHS EPA et all growing and growing.
buying up billions in ammo.

this just hit me. He is actually going to accomplish this objective.

However, it is our job to protect ourselves. The army was using brooms to train with as “rifles” right before Pearl Harbor. Here we go again.

What will “Doormat” Boehner do now?
Will “Capitulation” Cantor again turn and run?
Will “No Resistance” Ryan simply shrug and say?:
“Obama wins again, as he does every day.”

Is now on full display,
Showing their might,
To always Cave-In,
And never, ever fight.

I have a similar reaction,
the army is mainly for large scale land wars and the GWB wars as well as Obama’s Afghanistan actions have turned Americans more isolationist than ever.

Land invasions are out.

More-so I don’t trust either party myself on it.

If Congress approves this then it’s a done deal.

They stuff defense budgets with stuff all the time.

If it’s important they’ll propose an alternative.

I think we can pare back myself but, not in the depth discussed by Hazel.

I also don’t think that is the actual goal

They are proposing a “Floor” and will work up from there, toward their actual goal.

A-10? Sorry, drones can do that job with less risk to pilots, excellent accuracy and results and destroy targets for lower cost per action.

We can provide more drones than other low ceiling assets at a much lower cost and they can support on station much longer than other assets, as well refuel/resupply from basing closer to action .

F-35 should be fully developed and we should begin with the 35already ordered and now pared back to 25.

Personally I’d buy a couple hundred over the next. Three years but, that’s me.

I’d keep pushing our adversaries to play catch up.

2 new subs a year? uhm, minimum.

I think onnthe troop size I’d pare by maybe 20% and hold

I’d develop civilian programs that teach critical and basic skills like that found in CMP so as we go through the years there will be plenty of people with basic skills long before enlistment.

This is necessary to shift money to the burgeoning welfare state. This is where the votes are for the Democrats. Government dependency.

The F-35 seems to be a total crap-ball: all hype and little to support it.* It's touted as a "one size fits all" airframe, which has historically meant "does nothing particularly well". The F-22 on the other hand had a good, clear design-goal: air-superiority.

* It has been plagued with software problems, probably because (a) they insisted on using C++ instead of Ada [there's technical reasons why this matters, but I won't bore you], (b) the "do everything" likely means that there's a lack of real vision in management, (c) "everything's good"-ism [where each level paints a better picture than the one before it, meaning the further you are from the actual problem, the less troublesome it is perceived].

The problem with drones is that they are a great weapon...

Until someone figures out how to cut the control feed, or scramble the electronics, EMP-like. Then, they are just expensive falling rocks in the sky.

Great for low-intensity conflicts, and useless in a high-intensity electronic battlefield.

Let’s implement the F22.

I ain’t no X pert or nuttin but, if you say it’s betterish I’ll take your word for it.

Whatever forces our adversaries to sound money they can ill afford trying to keep up with us is fine by me.

people with guns in their hands fighting against RPVs will be like men with spears against gatling guns.

CMP skills are not going to be as effective as being able to hack drones’ control uplinks. The IIAF spanked USAF with that drone hijack caper. Better to study hacking into Wifi data channels..

Donna, I’ve had the same suspicion.

He’s building up a heavily armed federal non-military (come on ... an armed Post Office force? Seriously?), spying on everybody and taking control of every aspect of our lives, to include media monitors.

Now he wants to lay off thousands of troops, after a campaign to fire generals who don’t agree with him. This can’t be a coincidence. Everything he does is political, so think about the domestic ramifications first, not the foreign.

The Gulf war is the only war we have won since WW2. Any guesses why? Could it be the R.O.I.'s?

Armies are here to kill people and break things until the other side wants to quit. We have trouble remembering that from engagement to engagement and continue to try to win the "Hearts and Minds" of those trying to kill us.

A restructured army is fine if we restructure our attitudes to fit.

10 trillion for welfare? Funding a military is one of the few things the federal government is supposed to do.

I think that many misunderstand.

War is archaic. Viet Nam proved there will be no more war. The people decided that the end of war would produce the end of war. War is not the answer.

If there is no military there can be no excuse for war. /s

the Navy is going to shrink to below WW I levels.
The Air Force is going to be the smallest it ever has been.
The Army is going to shrink to pre WW II.

I see no downside to this this because we all know the world is now safer than ever, with a nuclear North Korea, Iran and a new aggressive super power in China. Everyone knows that when the German bomb Pearl Harbor next time, our enemies will give us a six months to a year to rebuild and rearm as well. Since with these high tech toys we now need will only take that long to establish.
Oh this is going to easy, what could go wrong? My only solace is the left coast will get it worst. Reap the whirlwind you idiots.

” - - - Republicans’ promise that last December’s budget deal, which reversed parts of the “sequester,” was necessary - - - “

THE OBAMA TROJAN HORSE PARTY

The “Republicans” are really just Trojan Horses sent in by Obama.
They do as they are told to avoid Left Stream Media jeers.
John “The Doormat” Boehner has his paranoid fears:
Obama and the Left Stream Media Journalists will drive him to tears.

And then there is “Capitulation” Cantor,
With a soft Virginia Drawl,
Who wears patches on his knees
From his frequent Cave-In crawls.

Don’t forget “No Resistance” Ryan,
Appeasement is his long suit.
No wonder “Romneycare” Romney
Was such a big Ryan fan.

Obama’s Trojan Horse is now filled with House RINOs,
All promising that in 2014 they will ALL be silent.
The Republican’s RINO Rove, and “Wacko Birds” McCain,
Act as the Loyal Rear Guard for the Obama Trojan Horse.

What we here? So say the skeptical.
Forward, ever FORWARD rolls the Obama Trojan Horse,
Crushing the Constitution, all Checks and Balances,
While the RINOs in Obama’s Trojan Horse stay always silent.

Did Obama capture the House RINOs inside his Trojan Horse?
Did the RINOs stampede on to get there first?
The “What” and the “Why” are just idle chatter,
The RINO Five Years of failure, is what the to voter matters.

With only two years left to Impeach Obama,
Can the Trojan Horse House RINOs be trusted,
What the Constitution requires elected Stewards to do?
Or will reelected House RINOs just continue the Obama trauma?
