Facebook & Instagram In Talks With Gun Control Advocates Seeking To Ban Gun Sales On Social Sites

Two of the country’s most influential gun control groups are in talks with Facebook’s legal team in an effort to see gun sales banned on the world’s largest social network and its sister site Instagram.

Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense In America has partnered with Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns to put pressure on Facebook to prohibit the private selling or trading of guns on its platforms — a practice that’s as widespread as it is unregulated.

“Facebook and Instagram are enabling people to sell weapons, often with no questions asked and no background checks required,” said Mayors Against Illegal Guns’ spokesperson Erika Soto Lamb.

Lamb cited a recent sting operation in Storm Lake, Iowa, where a convicted felon tried to exchange an assault rifle for a handgun via Facebook. In this case, the gun dealer was an undercover officer, and the 21-year-old felon was arrested and jailed.

“This police department shed light on how easy it is for someone who is prohibited from owning a gun to procure one using social media,” she said.

Lamb added that Facebook and Instagram would be joining fellow online platforms eBay, Craigslist and Google, all of which have banned the buying, selling or trading of firearms without background checks....

Repeat lie. Becomes truth. Oldest immoral trick in the tyrannical arsenal. But...the end....the means. They mean well, they’ll say. But with hubris and ignorance they lead us into serfdom....slavery....death. Period.

The great thing... When you are not bought into these “so-shall” media timewasters, I don’t have to worry about no Terms of Service violations.

I assume any conservatives on Facebook will close their accounts is they take this step, or at least contact advertisers (for those who use Facebook to stay in touch with relatives): “I noticed your ad on Facebook and will be boycotting your product. So long as Facebook prohibits the lawful purchase, sale, or advertising of firearms, I will no longer purchase any product or service from their advertisers.”

All purchases should be political, and we need to let business know (and pay) the cost of their decisions.

Bull. Those sites don’t just ban sales of guns without dealer checks. Craigslist bans EVERYTHING gun-related. Google won’t let the seller of an inert gun accessory advertise. Ebay similarly restricts gun-related sales. None of these sites will permit any advertising of guns, even f the sale goes through a dealer.

Sounds like a golden opportunity for some tech-savvy entrepreneur: a guns-only e-mart. Like Craigslist with fangs.

[Video] TX Gov Rick Perry Owns CT Gov Dan Malloy During Gun Control Debate on CNN

February 24 2014
by Dan Cannon

Rarely do we see state governors debating each other on national television, but that’s exactly what we got to see on CNN’s State of the Union recently.

Connecticut Governor Dan Malloy, a noted anti-gunner and a big reason CT passed such strict gun control laws last year was asked by CNN’s Candy Crowley if he thought gun laws in other states undermined CT’s ability to regulate guns with their strict laws. Malloy said,

I think we have a federal problem in the sense that we are rejecting the idea that we should have tighter controls on who has a gun. Universal background checks would make everyone safer in their states and in mine. It is a starting point. We should not be assigning or allowing folks who have mental health challenges currently to acquire guns.
We should not have a system that allows people who have extensive criminal records to get around –

When Crowley asked the other governor’s present if they agreed with Malloy, Texas Governor Rick Perry was the first to speak up,

Certainly not – the Second Amendment pretty much is a good amendment. And we support it in the state of Texas. The restrictions that you’ve seen states like Connecticut – when you think about the northeast, that was the Silicon Valley, if you will, of gun manufacturing. And you’re seeing those manufacturers leaving the northeast because of the taxation, the regulations, and just the attitude towards manufacturers of weapons.

As a matter of fact, Governor Bentley, was announced on Monday, Remington is moving 2,000 jobs being created there in Huntsville. Governor Haslam in Tennessee welcomed Beretta into his state. We invited Magpool into Texas. So, you’re seeing a shift of these manufacturers out of states that don’t want them there. And I think that is an appropriate move and an appropriate conversation for us to have.

And you’re absolutely right about the Tenth Amendment in the states. I know these governors will make decisions that are best for their citizens. Now, we compete against each other and that’s good.

A 21-year-old wants to trade an "assault weapon" for a handgun and these people think it's a bad idea.

I notice the article doesn't concern itself with where the felon got the "assault weapon". Is that because he took it in a burglary or bought it from someone who did? That wouldn't exactly make their point, now would it?
