President Obama’s Internal Revenue Service today quietly released a series of Obamacare “Health Care Tax Tips” warning Americans that they must obtain “qualifying” health insurance – as defined by the federal government – or face a “shared responsibility payment” when filing their tax returns in 2015. The term “shared responsibility payment” refers to the Obamacare individual mandate tax, one of at least seven tax hikes in the healthcare law that directly hit families making less than $250,000 per year.

If its a tax then one can be sent to jail for not paying, right???????

One could be. I truly do not know all the particulars of this law but believe one could be. From the first reports of those signing up, in total number(s) ... would say one will have plenty of company.

I haven’t read the ObamaCare statute, but I doubt that it says the IRS shall collect a “shared responsibility payment”. If it isn’t authorized by the law, it isn’t authorized. Can’t they at least follow the wording of the enabling statute as “legitimized” by the Supreme Court?

“The way the law is currently written”

The way it’s currently writtes is very different than how it’s being implimented. A mere stroke of the pen and the IRS will take your home, bank account or attach your wages. This is a tax. The Supreme court sez so. At some point time the IRS will treat this like all other taxes.

It’s an interesting threat because there was no “or else”.

I understand they can only collect if you get a refund. But I guess the penalty will raise your taxes due amount. So for those who owe anyway, they will have to pay the extra amount.

But for those who are not getting a refund and no taxes due (but have this penalty added against them), will it continue to stay on the IRS books with interest added? That could get expensive.

Somewhat jumbled in my mind. I hope someone can lay it out really clear to understand all the different tax scenerios.

So they will get you for lying on your tax return then?

They can punish you for that.

We need a tax revolt. Everybody should give their employer (those fortunate enough to still have a job) a revised W4 showing no withholding for federal income tax. Unfortunately, this has no chance of having an impact unless millions of people do it. The first step (since impeachment seems unlikely) in solving our problems is to starve the beast.

This is a tax. The Supreme court sez so.

But it's not a legitimate tax the Constitution says so...

Section. 7.

All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.

The ACA originated in the Senate.

And since only the “Takers” get refunds (due to tax credits etc) , only Obama voters will be hit by this.

So without a balanced budget amendment and a 2/3rds majority vote in both house and senate to raise the fair tax rate...the fair tax is dead....plus...progressives will not view it as a progressive tax but a flat 31% tax that affects the poor as much as it affects the rich. How close seriously do you think we are to getting this passed? If you abolish the IRS think of the job loss for all the tax folks not in govt...I like the idea of it but it really seems like way too many hurdles to clear....better odds on burning the IRS building to the ground...IMHO

Now that we know the IRS has compiled hit lists based on party affiliation, I wonder WHO will be punished for not complying? Wait.. No, I don't wonder: REGISTERED REPUBLICANS ONLY!

The ACA originated in the Senate.

You may not have noticed, but no one in office cares about the constitution or any other law.

Libs will scream and holler no matter what. When we get all 3 branches (!) we should...

repeal 0bamacare
eliminate the IRS
implement an nrst (super-friendly to capital)
eliminate a dozen or so federal agencies

and walk to the capital building with gavel in speaker’s hand... et al.

And jam it down their farking throats

The nrst’s chances are as good as any major reform’s chances - maybe better. Lots of reasons including political environment and economic need. Such circumstances have not been evident to such an extent EVER.
