Obama's Historic Defense Cuts Spell Disaster

On Monday, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel announced massive cuts to the size of the armed services, slashing the army to its pre-World War II size. In 2011, the army had some 566,000 soldiers; Hagel wants it cut to somewhere between 440,000 and 450,000 troops by 2019. If Congress does not add additional funding, Hagel threatens to slash that number to 420,000 by 2019.

Don’t get me wrong, Obama wants a weaker USA, but this proposal also a diversion. No way this gets through congress Democrat or Republicans. Even weak kneed RATS love defense spending in their district. This is clearly a diversion from Obama to take attention away from the ObamaCare disaster.

In the short term, maybe this will produce a lot of nothing. Part of the world’s hate for the USA was envy that it was so successful and forceful. Look at Putin now. He pities the USA more than hates it.

In the long term, it will catch the USA with its pants down when it needs to fight. Drones can’t do everything.

I'm not so sure. The only way they can deny King Barry anything he wants is to SHUT DOWN THE GOVERNMENT! Which, as we've seen, leaves the Pubbies in quivering little blobs on the floor.

The thing is, I see a lot of support on this board for sending jobs to China.

That is part of the problem.

China is now a larger importer than America.

We need to bring back American jobs. All American jobs. We need to stop spending American assets on imports.

When we stop spending American assets on imports, then our defense budget will also stop shrinking.

Stop spending American money on imports.

Bring back American money. Spend it here.

On defense, and on everything.

Spend it here.

Tis is probably what obama meant when a mophone Picked Up his private Exchange With President Dmitri A. Medvedev of Russia in 2012:

“This is my last election. After my election I have more flexibility.”

No one has mentioned that the “soldiers” in 1940 were most all men, where now it includes 100K+ women.

Oh yeah, cut the military 'cause the world is such a safer place now. There is no resurgent Russia. China isn't building up its military. Radical Islam isn't spreading its poison. Rogue or at best unreliable nation-states aren't developing missile technology and WMDs to threaten neighbors and even CONUS. Regional conflicts aren't more likely to flare up into major wars...

Oh, wait...{snaps fingers}...that's right. All those things are happening. But what the heck obama and crew, let's cut the military anyway. After all, we need to buy more iPhones for all those poor underprivileged lazy-a** mothe... Never mind.

The administration needs to squeeze out a few more trillion dollars in in entitlements so they can shore up their voter base with more ‘free stuff”.Brown Chemistry is a

That being said, our military needs to refocus so we can hit hard, fast and deadly without hundreds of thousands of boots on the ground around the world. We have too many chiefs and useless paper pushers at the top of the food chain.

The money that's "saved" is just going to disappear into a black hole and come out as more social programs that the lefty/prog/Dems can use to bribe their constituencies.

I knew this would happen from the start. I have yet to hear about one single social program that's been cut. Just the military.

I remember the russkies used to call us 'decadent Americans'. Well when defense comes last in a long laundry list of things we need desperately, decadent will do until a better word comes along.

God help us!

You may be right, 11th. Another diversion. We have seen so many calculated diversion in the last 5 years. Ones where Unions have engaged in almost riots, meanwhile Obama is “penning” something again while everyone is looking the other way.

The plan is to keep the bases open and most of the appropriations flowing to campaign donor contractors. The big cuts are to personnel and some systems. This will be the hollow force campaign donor DOD the Dems have dreamed about.

The kenyan wants a new low base line DOD budget for the next round of the sequester. A lot of the politically explosive cuts will be put there to bust the sequestor again.

I don’t think any of this is a surprise. The GOP is in on this. After Ryan-Murray they had to know this was coming and did not sound the alarm.

::::::::::

Yes. We are going to see a constant stream of “red herring” issues thrown to the leftist MSM to take attention off of the main election issue in both 2014 and 2016.

The ObamaCare DISASTER.

And Putin is moving his armed forces next to Ukraine for “drills.”

2014 rhymes with 1914, not only 1940.

With out cutting a dime if they’d do away with the PORK unwanted projects in the Military they would not have to downsize a thing. Just stop building and funding what the Military has NO NEED or WANT OF. like these speed bumps which cost $7K a piece that were installed on Military bases last year. IN 5mph parking lots of Commissary or Exchanges, Sorry I don’t know what other branches but the Navy calls theirs. http://cdni.wired.co.uk/620x413/a_c/bump.jpg

Treason thy name is Obama. His strategy from day one has been to make America vulnerable from without by weakening the US military and supporting its enemies and to make America vulnerable from within by destroying its economy and finances. And to date, the Republicans have stood by and allowed it to happen without a fight.

After Ryan-Murray they had to know this was coming and did not sound the alarm.

Very good point. Ryan and the GOP leadership really messed up when they cut retiree benefits without democrat concessions. Very disappointed in Ryan.

The plan is to keep the bases open and most of the appropriations flowing to campaign donor contractors. The big cuts are to personnel and some systems.

Another good point. Talking to my son in the Air Force. He says no way does the F-35 replaces the A-10 in close combat. In addition to all the points in the NRO article, he points out that repairing the LO on the stealth planes is a four day process which is not conducive to a close support mission. It is also expensive. Why would you put such a plane in this situation.
