It’s a simple logical corollary from whom God is.
It would be like saying that it is vain for you to try to walk on the ground without gravity.
And indeed, it is PERSONAL belief, including YOU, that gives you the power and influence to glorify God which may well include influence in the world.
You have to take all God’s declarations and promises at face value yourself. You can’t just go rummaging in scripture for an answer to some nuisance issue like faux marriage, and ignoring it for everything else you do. God won’t accommodate that.
And ultimately living a life full of God will show even a lot of the homosexual world “here’s a better way to do it, and you can see that for yourself.”
Now if you think the better way to do it is mere heterosexuality, think again. God said either virtuous singlehood or dedicated holy marriage. If the heterosexual world thought it had the high moral ground to admonish homosexuals, it abandoned that high moral ground years ago. Recapturing the holy target in plain view in your personal lives is what it will take, and you will find that indeed politics was only a sideshow. What really mattered was sharing the Good News.
The ‘Do it because God said so’ argument is not working at all.

On gay issues I don't know who are the most counter productive in GOP, those who want to surrender on it, or those who make up arguments designed to rally only that 5 to 10% of true believers who will support them anyway.
But it sure would be nice to beat Dems on these fights instead of year after year of endless whining.

Seriously, this is a slippery slope. Its an all or nothing proposition. Otherwise, it could eventually devolve into anarchy - with people refusing service for a wide variety of reasons.
