Sen. Ted Cruz has angered the GOP establishment by supporting a conservative group attempting to replace incumbent Republican senators with tea party activists in the midterm elections.

The Texas Republican has written a fundraising letters for the Madison Project, a political action committee looking to oust Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky as well as Sens. Pat Roberts of Kansas and Thad Cochran of Mississippi, according to Politico.

Cruz’s appeal comes five months after the tea party leader had declared that he would not be helping the fundraising efforts of the powerhouse right-wing group the Senate Conservatives Fund.

In his message for the Madison Project, Cruz urged donors "pull out all the stops" to elect "solid, principled, conservative fighters" who will "not answer to the party bosses in Washington, D.C."

McConnell, a three-decade incumbent, is facing a primary challenge from tea party businessman Matt Bevin. Roberts, a three-term veteran, is up against fierce staunch right-winger Dr. Milton Wolf. Cochran, a six-term Republican, is being challenged by  conservative state Senator Chris McDaniel in a tight race.

Although Cruz does not name any candidates he’s supporting in the primaries, he declared that the Madison Project had sought out "viable conservative candidates."

In his letter, Cruz added, "Our nation desperately needs more strong conservative fighters in the Senate … not more moderate, career politicians who will sacrifice principle and compromise with Democrats at every turn. In short, it’s time to elect some conservatives who won’t run from a fight!"

On its website, the Madison Project said the core of its mission is "to grow competition in Republican primaries against ruling-class incumbents who have grown stale and ineffective throughout

Instead of being angry at Ted Cruz, maybe the GOPe could present a compelling case on why their particular boys or girls are worth keeping.

Well, well. A politician who sincerely puts the needs of the nation above political expediency. I think that's called being a statesman.

Rove and the rest of the girly-men must be furious!

If Ted Cruz gave one of his balls to Rand Paul, they’d both have one. Rand must be pissed that Ted is not supporting his buddy Mitch McConnell whom Rand has endorsed and for whom he is actively campaigning. I can’t stand that punk, Rand Paul.

I am beginning to be convinced that one of Cruz’s goals is a third party and he wants to lead it. The net result will he to help Democrats the same way Ross Perot did that resulted in Bill Clinton’s election twice.

“I am beginning to be convinced that one of Cruz’s goals is a third party and he wants to lead it.”

Seems to me he is trying to wrestle the GOP away from the libs and fill it back up with conservatives.

I am beginning to be convinced that one of Cruz’s goals is a third party and he wants to lead it. The net result will he to help Democrats the same way Ross Perot did that resulted in Bill Clinton’s election twice.

Just another variant in your trollish "He's just in it for himself" garbage line.

Maybe someone should post...

“I think McConnell and Boehner are just in it for themselves, I think their goal is to force conservatives to form a third party....”

‘The net result will he to help Democrats the same way Ross Perot did that resulted in Bill Clinton’s election twice.’

That is a pathetic illogical fallacy. Bush raised taxes and Dole did not campaign. They are responsible for their own defeats.
I think that Senator Ted Cruz has burned his bridges behind him. He will never be willingly supported or funded, or nominated by the Republican Party, ever. And the Republican Party will oppose his Conservative principles everywhere and at any cost.
This gives Senator Ted Cruz a real chance to win, as he would be rid of the burden of RINO losers, fakes, dimwits and cowards.
Anything, mementos, letters signed by Sen. Cruz are going to be very valuable someday.
