The King of Kings [Encouragement in these dark days]

The gospel of Luke ends with a supremely jarring statement: “Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven. And they worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple blessing God” (24:50–53).

What is jarring about this passage is, as Luke reports the departure of Jesus from this world, the response of His disciples was to return to Jerusalem with “great joy.” What about Jesus’ departure would instill in His disciples an emotion of sheer elation?

Please go to the link and read the entire piece; it gives abundant reason for hope and confidence that GOD is truly in control.

I know it is depressing as the government and the culture (two entities that SO desire to play the ROLE of God in our day) seem to be "winning". Yet we must remember the days of all of us are short--and we do not rule the universe. Christ does.

When believers look around at the state of the world, many (myself included) shake their heads and wonder if there has ever been a worse time than now in its sinfulness, its willful defiance of God, and the persecution of His people.

But then I read the Bible and see that there have been many ages like ours over thousands of years.

The fact that the Lord holds back His most deserved judgement to allow the fullness of His Church to be gathered speaks of His immense mercy.

He is sovereign.

He has a plan for each of us and for the whole world regardless of if we believe it (or even like it) or not.

I place my trust in Him.

He knows what He is doing.

Jesus is Lord

Exactly. What the people saw was an utter miracle and a confirmation of their faith in the Lord. They see Him bodily rise into the heavens - seeing an event only read about Elijah taken up in the whirlwind.

I am sure they talked about it for days, weeks, months and even years - so many meanings on so many levels. And it surely spread the Good News - The Gospel of Jesus Christ- all the more.

Elisha was told that his wish for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit would be granted if Elisha was actually able to witness Elijah’s departure on a fiery chariot; which the bible says he did. The last thing that occurred was Elijah’s mantle cloak floating down from the sky for Elisha to claim and put around his own shoulders.

At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit would fall upon the disciples.

Exactly.....The Roman empire at this time was so evil. that our problems today seem small.

"Jesus ho kurios, Jesus is Lord. The lordship of Jesus is not simply a hope of Christians that someday might be realized; it is a truth that has already taken place......"

Yes..but the baptism was witnesses by others and when Peter started preaching, 3000 were saved that first day with the Holy Ghost falling on all of them.
